Been dealing with some health issues that have caused me high levels of anxiety for the past month and a half and finally got prescribed something for it. Thing is that while it eases my fears...I really hate how it makes you feel, how it supresses how I really feel inside. The moment I start to get sad it rapidly locks the feeling away...and I hate it. I want to feel my emotions even it makes me cry. Also I had been doing better than before and all the exercise was helping so I really regret taking it in the first place.

exercise has antidepressant effects. if your meds are less effective then exercise, begs the question of why take them.

i say that with caution. if you need meds, and your doctor says u do, then you probably need meds . but i wouldnt discount your own experiences with other methods of treating depression and anxiety.

yes, im on meds myself so im not against them

Was crying less, was feeling calmer....just that nervousness gets the best of me in the drs office so I came across worse. Also I think I may be going through withdrawals from a pill I took for one day.

It shouldn't do that. You nerd to try different ones. Not all of them work for everyone. Almost very one has to try multiple ones before finding one that works. I'm on 20mg Lexapro and I feel normal on it. Like I should be. I only feel real feelings now. Without it I'd be a disaster like I used to be.

I hated it too, but it made my brain to calm down and not spin out of control which made me able practice and use the tools Ive learned in therapy. Im off them now and I can handle my anxieties most of the time quite well, despite having now a less calm brain.

It's actually 5mg Lexapro. I don't know...he's a cardiologist...probably acted in a mechanical way.

How long were you on them?

The effects of anti-depressants take around 3 weeks or so to kick in.

Uhh...3 days? So it could be more about the other pill which is for anxiety and blood pressure. Took one dose and stopped. Also skipped 1 dose of my reg blood pressure pill.

Oh dude, the first few days of any anti-depressant will make you feel weird as hell, almost high in some cases. It takes weeks to normalize.

For me I could have at most 10mg Escitalopram a day. I tried 15 and the side effects were bad. Didnt have to try other anti depressants.

My meds make it so it feels like a toe is growing in my brain, if I don't have it on time.

It's weird, I'm on 20mg of it, and it's great for me. I know it's the highest dose, and when I tell some people they're shocked because it's so high, but I feel normal with it. That's what I started with too. There was no 5 or 10 first, straight to 20.

I had to start slowly with 1/4 pill at first and ramp it up. (So 2,5mg to 5mg to 7,5mg to 10mg)

Is Lexapro the first antidepressant you tried or did you try a couple other ones before finally finding the right one? Just want to know more anecdotes before I possibly try it myself.

Ive tried 4 different anti depressants (Wellbutrin, Zoloft/Setraline, Trazodone, Nortryptiline) and Im so sick and tired of them, the side effects make me feel awful and I never feel normal on any of them. This is after months on each one too. My doctor wants to try Lexapro next but Im honestly just so over trying new ones that I really dont want to do it all over again. I do still suffer from serious depression issues though unfortunately.
