I don't think I've seen any changes to this site for years. Every time they add a new feature or design I immediately disable it in the settings.

As far as I'm concerned, it's still 2013.

There's a gear on the top right that you can change the Display Style from "Modern" to "Classic" and the Desktop Columns from "Two" to "One". Then open up a topic and press the gear icon again change change User Signatures from "Hide" to "Show" if you want to see them. Layout seems about the same to me after those changes. I don't know if my other board settings are influencing it at all. I still have names above posts as I've always had them that way.

I was mostly just joking, because I said earlier in the beta that it didn't matter because the game boards were pretty much useless shit at this point anyway.

That'd probably be the point where even I jettison this garbage scow of a site for good. Short of them desperately caving and adding in an option to reskin things back to the old style, there's literally nothing left here at this point to justify wading through shit design.

given that it was near universal hatred for it, with polls asking if you like it or not going into the thousands with 0 yes votes, i'm guessing it was on purpose.

like they didn't even fix major issues, like general accessibility for colorblind people, that were known about and acknowledged by him months ago.

To be fair to Allen, people give him shit about stuff like this, but there's a good chance he has very little control over it.

If his corporate overlords tell him to do something, it's his job to give them what they ask for even if it's stupid, and then try to sell it to the userbase as if it's a good idea. It's not like he'd ever really be able to go "Look, I know this is stupid, but it's not like I have a choice."

Considering the site just got sold off recently, there's a very good chance the new owners just demanded a rebranding to put their stamp on it, but they don't actually understand anything about coding, user interfaces, or what users actually want, so they just gave him a list of bad ideas and then demanded he implement it by [insert date here].

Of course, it could be entirely his idea, in which case he probably shouldn't be in charge of anything, let alone something that used to be a fairly popular site on the Internet (and the fact that he IS in charge might help explain why it's no longer a fairly popular site on the Internet). But it's hard to say exactly whose fault it is, because he can't really pass the buck if it isn't his fault.

meanwhile, what actually happened, is allen just posted a post explaining what happened here, and it was filled with very, very, very easily proven lies.

he claimed that the feedback they gathered during the beta was good, despite the fact that you can actually go to the board they used for feedback and see that...no, it was overwhelmingly negative from the beginning.

then he said that they had fixed most of the issues people had with the design in the beta, which again, despite the fact you can go to the board they used for feedback and see that the things being complained about then, were still being complained about now. like actual issues, not just "i don't like it.". we're talking fundamental accessibility issues, search outright being broken, links taking you to somewhere they aren't even linking to, to buttons being in the wrong order (which ended up finally getting fixed an hour after the design got pushed to everyone, btw.), to quirky layout issues, like the message number being lower than the rest of the message header by a few pixels.

this obvious gaslight attempt, combined with his incredibly flippant attitude in the site suggestions board (he literally said he did not want suggestions or feedback for the site design, in a topic where he specifically told people to do those two things.), all kind of just add up to him playing a major part in this, and not something that was just forced on him.
