I've never met a maid under 18 before in one and I have been to a lot. Dude has probably never even been to Japan but thinks he is an expert because he read some shit online. Which is extremely common it seems.

I've never gone there without women though. Some guys go to thirst after maids, but that's really not what it is about. Women go to them because it's not just a thirst trap, there is singing, games, etc. Now Hostess clubs? That's explicitly a thirst trap, but I only go when my boss effectively makes me.

Ive been there twice. Both times I was legitimately curious since it was my first time in Japan. Both times it was so chill with friends and met a few nice people. Didn't feel any weird vibes once.

Makes me wonder which ones you have been to since you obviously have had bad experiences. If so, name them so I can avoid them next time I go.

Edit: For clarification, I went to Maidreamin and another smaller known one. Forgot the name of the second one.

I went to the Maidreamin' in Akihabara closest to the train station (it's the original one with the visible stage from the street) on New Year's Eve in 2019/2020 and it was the absolute best time. They had non-stop signing the entire time rather than once an hour. Champagne was discounted (though still way more than it would be basically anywhere else) and we get all kinds of goods for free. Had corona not ruined everything I would have loved to go back last New Year's.

A lot of people say @home is the best in Akihabara, but unless you consider length of lines to be the measure of quality I don't agree. Maidreamin' is everywhere now though. Not just Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, any major city you tend to see it. I live in a smaller city so we just have a small independent place that honestly isn't all that great (it's also a cosplay cafe, maids is just one of many occasional outfits), but they have a decent manga library.

Ive gone to 0. Going to a cafe to be served by scantily clad dressed women while they act a particular way is not my thing. I also feel like my wife would not look like to be there

They're not though. They are in cosplay as maids.

They also act friendly. Not sexy or seductively.

And you've never been to one? Fair enough, but the way you've been posting made me feel you had a legitimate bone to pick with them from experience. Guess I was wrong. Also it's a bit judgemental for you to say all that without even going there yourself but whatever.

Are you from the US? They've got places like Hooters right? I've never been there but arent those focused on scantily clad women with big breasts walking around? That sounds even worse to me. Although I'd rather not judge. I dont want to vindicate people for something I have no experience in, just because it's a different place.

Also I dunno about my opinion being "extreme". do a poll around people who are not videogame nerds to see what the prevailing social wind on otaku maid cafes is.
