It's mainly due to the changes in OoT being QoL improvements (like not having to pause every time you needed to swap boots), whereas many of the changes in MM were pointless or actually made the game worse (like totally rethinking the boss fights, making the ice arrows only work in specific spots, and the Zora swimming being totally fucked).

In addition to the above, everything in the world is slightly farther apart, so a lot of platforming no longer works, and

the entire fucking crux of the yesiknow ludonarrative consonance was revolving around time management, and the save system ruins it.

Most people don't have anxiety in this particular way. Due date for a paper, sure. But a videogame designed for the player to win?

when I realized I could slow down time it was a lot better. Plenty of time to tackle an entire area in one cycle and toss in a few side quests before having to restart

Honestly, all you have to do is make sure that you deposit your rupees before rewinding time, then rewind whenever you're doing a large sidequest or starting a major section of the main quest, obviously slowing down time as soon as a cycle begins. I've actually done small sidequests on the night of the final day without any sweat because I know I can reset at any time.

But yeah, you just have to make sure you start large undertakings from Day 1 and the time limit isn't an issue.

When I first played MM as a kid and learned the hard way going back in time resets your progress, I remember thinking "I'm not doing all of that again" and put the game down for at least a year

I never got to the first dungeon in MM 3D, I do want to give it a shot on switch though.

that being said, I wonder if nintendo will port the 64 or the 3DS version (in 1080p). . Hopefully both. Originals in nintendo online and 3ds separately or part of a 3D collection.

I would kill for the original with the remaster graphics.

This is a common complaint, but it's really not a big deal. There's a song to slow down time which means it's three and a half hours from start to finish. The game is very liberal with unlocking shortcuts and warp points, so you don't waste time traveling back to where you were. If memory serves, there's only one big sidequests that requires multiple things at certain times each day.

It was way more common for me to be waiting on a specific event rather than running out of time.

Long video, covers pretty much all of it tho. A lot of things come off as kind of nitpicky, but when you take it all together MM3D is just a worse experience overall than N64 MM.

I think most peoples gripes with the 3DS version come from having played the original. Its still a good experience and while I hated a lot of changes theyve made to bosses and gameplay, the time and saving mechanics are much more user friendly. Obviously the original is preferable to most but Id say you can do worse in ports than the 3DS version of MM.

I mean, you have an unlimited amount of times you can do stuff.

Mess it up? Remember for next time and do it again. Easy peasy.

The time limit in MM isnt bad when you realize that the items and owl statues are like checkpoints that assure you never have to do something again. Got the awakening song and the owl statue outside the deku dungeon? You can just warp right there and play the song and skip everything in that area. Got the song that summons the turtle in great bay? Never have to visit the gerudo fortress again.

Same with the dungeon items. Dungeons in MM are literally always designed so that if you get the dungeon item and reset, you will be able to skip half the dungeon more or less because theres always something early in the dungeon that you use said item on to access the second half

Its never a case of having to do -everything- in one loop, theres always multiple parts to everything that mean you can just skip right ahead of you get them. For a game designed in such a short time its pretty ingenious

not a bad game, but definitely a bad remaster/remake. Especially when compared to OoT3D being a straight up improvement over the original

it was. Somehow managed to have less content than the original. For some reason MM3D decided to restrict swimming as a Zora so it's no longer fun.

What was missing from the OG?

I do wish they hadnt made SO many changes. Some of them I dont mind, but yeah the new Zora swimming was awful, and the new Twinmold fight was absolutely horrendous.
