How you're supposed to beat the game with Richter?

Maybe I'm missing something because it seems like RoB has a lot of secrets. I found the game is tough but beatable with Maria but basically impossible with Richter, especially as you got further into the game. There are bosses that I had a really tough time beating with Maria that I couldn't imagine beating with Richter, but I wouldn't even be able to get through the levels with Richter in the first place. It seems like the game was designed to be played with Maria.

Trial and error, basically. Use your subweapons, plan your movement, etc. When in doubt, Hydro Storm.
And I don't want to be that guy, but I felt like Rondo of Blood is one of the easiest classic Castlevanias...

Richter Mode is generally considered the "hard mode" on future Castlevanias that featured it.

I've only played the Dracula X version on the snes. Is it really that much different between the two? Getting the various routes/secrets in the game at times requires no dying or subweapons, since you need to carry the key from one level to the next. All it took was practice, the true secret of video games.

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.

I think Maria takes more damage than Richter so it's possible the bosses aren't as difficult with him as they are with her. But Richter is slow and can only attack in two directions. It's like Castlevania I controls in Castlevania IV.

Yep, that's where the subweapons come in, particularly the axe.

Maria's subweapons are way more useful than Richter's subweapons tho. And her double jump is way more useful than Richter's backflip.

Like I've tried to cross that crumbling bridge with Richter and I've been able to do it once, while losing almost all my health. I can do it almost every attempt with Maria.

I usually just backflip through that part. It helps that the whip hitbox is briefly behind you.

I honestly have an easier time with Richter just because I'm so used to regular classic Castlevania

Another example: the stage where you fight the Grim Reaper on the ghost ship, I was never able to cross the ship near the end of the level with Richter. I didn't try too many times though because I could get across with Maria usually without losing any health.

Posting this example to bump the topic. Defeating Dracula with Maria is pretty easy.

I tried it with Richter and I couldn't even take off half the healthbar of his first form.

Just hit him once and then backflip over the fireballs

Oh, that makes sense. I never got used to using the backflip because you can't use it while moving forward

They're pretty much entirely different games with the same visual assets.
