I'd be fine with putting them in a pill bottle with a child proof cap. The only issue is that it's more expensive for the company that produces them. Which idgaf, those guys are making a killing right now. They can take a minor hit to their bottom line here.

Side with the mom on this one, I think. Didnt read the story

Yeah, this is the mom's fault.

As others have mentioned, a little kid will eat a gummy candy regardless of the packaging. I'm sure most of us remember gummy candy in the most basic packaging: the plastic bag with the cardboard seal on top with a generic name at most convenience stores.

This sounds like an irresponsible mother knowing she fucked up and trying to blame the manufacturer instead of storing the gummies in a place where a 6 year old can't access.

You are the parent. Its your job to keep stuf like that where kids cant get it. If you left your kid with a sitter and it happened its still not the packages fault. Its the sitters fault for being irresponsible.

idk why people are blaming the mom.

if the story in the article is legit, the mom and her daughter stayed in a specific room whenever they visited someone.

however, someone else came to visit and was staying in that room.

that person jumped into the pool to get their two year old kid who jumped into the pool so they went back inside to change.

they left their wet clothes on the bed, which had the gummies in the pocket, and the daughter, who usually stays in that room, mistakenly went inside and saw the gummies in the pocket of the wet clothes.

tbf, that person most likely wasn't expecting the kid to go to their room and through their pockets.

plus it seems like due to jumping in the pool to get the baby, they weren't planning on taking off those clothes.

Yeah a lot of unexpected things happen. Im sure John Doe didnt think little Timmy would get into his unlocked gun cabinet and accidentally shoot little Susie in the chest but it happened, and he bares some of the blame.

Point being as adults you gotta be smarter with kids around. Kids are stupid, be cautious around them.

And frankly, as a frequent cannibis consumer I absolutely agree that edibles packaging needs to be overhauled to not look like candy and/or have childproofing. I have some edibles in the house, and some of them are in large pill bottle type containers with childproof lids, but some are just blister packs in cardboard. All of them look like candy, and even though I don't have kids or generally even allow them in my house, every time I see these packages it makes me wonder. Like, fruit and chocolate flavored cigarettes are illegal nationwide, but THC edibles are allowed to be packaged literally exactly like candy.

I don't know how many adults you know but most adults are just kids with years of wear and tear.

I'm not sure I blame the mom here. She wasn't even present. Blame the husband.

Hell, I'm not sure I'd put full blame on the person who brought them, if they were visiting unaware that other young children would be present.

Though having edibles on your person when you are responsible for a 2 year old is a dumb fucking move (though they may not have even planned on consuming since they had their kid and had brought them for their friends, legally or not).

It all around sounds like a genuine accident.

Also whoever was talking about how the candies shouldn't be able to cause someone to seize up, it's a fucking child. Age ranges for drugs exist for a reason.

The most egregious part of the packaging is the use of the Hawaiian Punch. Yes, its not the actual logo but that logo is more accurate enough to trick a 6 year old. Combine that with the fact its gummy candy and it isn't a stretch to think a kid would be fooled.

Now you could question the mothers parenting and why the child would take something that isn't theirs without asking an adult at least.

Normally I side against the mother in these types of stories (because they tend to be irresponsible Karens), but she has a good point here. Overall, I'd say it's a freak accident, but maybe change the packaging to look less like a kid's candy.

And I'm surprised people itt are saying 50mg is a small amount. I'm 170 lbs and even 10mg gummy will get me high. I could easily see 50mg messing up a 6 year old to the point of seizure.

The packaging itself says 1 dose is 50 mg or 1 gummy. Which is the number of gummies divided by total. And that shit is low too to account for lightweights like yourself.

I frequently eat several of those bags and hardly notice anything. They just involve less coughing.

In fact I am going to go eat a 600 mg bag right now.

I agree that's kinda fucked and canada has strict regulations on packaging for that reason.

That said a 6 year old isn't gonna read the packaging or care if its really low key and has some small print warning... they're still just gonna see candy.

Packaging should change but its still mainly on the adults imo.

By weight thats actually the correct dosage if for some reason you felt you needed to give it to a six year old kid. Which generally weigh more than 40 pounds.

But thats irrelevant. There are grown ass adults in this topic saying 10 mg is a lot.
