Like pay money for a fully trained, EV/IV full, powerful, and shiny to boot pokemon, as one of those exchange real life money packages online whatever they're called.

I feel like it would make them from millions to billions. I know as a kid I would have liked to have the ultimate team to beat the battle tower in Emerald which I could never get through, or worse, Pokemon Stadium 2 where the AI outright cheats, and I probably would have paid money for an ultimate setup pokemon to take care of those Stadium Cup battles.

It's already the most profitable media franchise in the world, it doesn't need gacha overkill to hurt any goodwill with fans (Sw/Sh did enough of that).

Game Freak is always known to be behind the times, look how long it took them to get 3-D right.

I'm hoping they do. Add in some gacha elements as well to keep the replay value high.

That could do more harm than good, considering Pokemon is established primarily as a childrens' franchise and a pretty reputable one at that.

Now, if they did this only in a spinoff specifically aimed at adults (which they'd still have plenty of fans among), that's another matter... but yeah, I think it would be a poor decision in the long run to do this on main-series games, even if it does short-term bring in some extra bucks.

If you play any mobile game where unlocking things require you to buy "loot boxes" or have any form of RNG system using in-game currency, that's gacha. Essentially it incentivizes you to spend real money, the biggest is people trying to get their waifu's.

It derives from the Toy Vending Machines in Japan where you get a random toy from a capsule.

Kinda, but more it'd be like if you can buy a $10 "mystery pokeball" and you know that a Pokemon will be inside, but until you've paid and opened it you have no idea whether it's a Ratatta, a Mewtwo, or anywhere inbetween, nor what item (if any) it might be holding, or what level it is, etc.
