It's crazy to think how the show started. They needed something to fill the bumpers in between sketches on Tracy's show so Matt came up with a weird looking family and some very bland "jokes". Then someone at Fox saw those crappy things and said "Yes, let's make a prime time animated show out of those". And it goes on to be one of the most successful and entertaining TV shows of all time.
