Tampa Bay Rays ace Tyler Glasnow, who left his start on Monday night because of elbow inflammation, has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament and a flexor tendon strain, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Glasnow will attempt to rehab the injury without undergoing Tommy John surgery, though it's unclear what his chances are of avoiding that fate. Glasnow, 27, had pitched fantastically over his first 14 starts this season. He'd compiled a 2.66 ERA (145 ERA+) and a 4.56 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 88 innings. Although the Rays tend to steer away from lengthy starts, they'd recently allowed him to work at least seven innings in four of his last five outings entering Monday's contest against the Chicago White Sox. Glasnow, for his part, blamed his injury on MLB's new policies aimed at curbing pitchers' usage of foreign substances. "I just threw 80 something innings and you just told me I can't use anything. I have to change everything," he told reporters, including Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Florida. "I truly believe 100 percent that's why I got hurt. I'm frustrated MLB doesn't understand. You can't just tell us to use nothing. It's crazy."

I did hear a batter say that he doesn't like the idea of these guys throwing 100 mph at him and possibly losing their grip. If we start seeing batters get hit in the face I'm sure MLB is gonna change their stance.

I wouldn't be surprised. It seems pretty clear that MLB has no clue what they're doing anymore.

i've been a fan of him since his very first pitch, but this is not a good look. even if the speculation is accurate, it's his job to adapt to the rules, not the other way around.

shouldn't have ever gotten to this point, though. unenforced rules might as well not even exist.

Yeah the problem is that MLB hasn't done anything until now. It's been known for years now that a lot of pitchers have been using substances to increase their spin rate.

if baseball wants to discourage sticky stuff, they can provide better clear legal alternatives than garbage rosen or whatever

MLB went 0-100 with the substance issue. And its their own fault.

on the other hand I read that many position players dont mind the increased control and grip as it prevents wild pitches and potentially dangerous ones.

but if you cant control 97mph dont throw 97mph.

in high school a dude one year ahead of me threw straight fire, but with NO control. he never really hit anyone, but my buddy was catcher and he fucking hated catching for him. would just get absolutely battered with all the balls in the dirt
