Well she's basically fap material. It's not like the story is actually good. It's a story about an underaged girl believing sex sells and that girls don't need a voice, they just need to be pretty. The big revelation at the end is that the girl that has the pretty voice will win.
I'm not sure how to salvage such a story in a live action.

I remember it and I think people on here saved it at the time, along with the racist tag they had for him being proven right. I also remember him mocking the terrible accident that happened when the guy got shot dead trying to surprise his family at a birthday or something. And also mocking a gay guy that hanged himself after he got outed intentionally by his so called best friend to his super conservative family. The last one baffled me because I was under the impression this Kyuubi person was gay too.

The thing about him is he tries to come off as hardwired super logical and rational, applying unrealistic human behaviour to difficult scenarios (he did it in all these cases). Such as, the black guy should have acted perfectly like a robot so as not to be killed. Or the guy at the surprise party totally should have seen a gunshot coming from nowhere and was an idiot not to. Ironically, instead of sounding rational he comes off as a total psychopath.

The character should resemble the depiction, I just don't see why race is a meaningful part of your world.

Because his voice and typical acting style aren't a good fit for the character's personality. As magnificently entertaining as it would be to hear Danny scream "But daddy I love him!", the novelty would wear off pretty quickly.

Well, that's some shitty typecasting. Kinda discriminatory, too, if you're sitting there arguing that appearance shouldn't factor into appearance. If that's your argument, age clearly doesn't matter. And if you just want the best actor for a role, that's often going to be Danny DeVito.

This is dumb. That's like wondering why there's any dark coloured fish at all. I think in the cartoon series they had darker mermaids that were Ariel's sisters but I assume King Triton got around with different women.

I don't remember them doing a series but the sequels/prequels -- which came out after the fact -- did a lot of wonky things.

...meanwhile there's been widespread outrage over In the Heights not having an Afro-Latino. Not to mention the outrage when a half-white character in movies was played by a white person, which ultimately forced *both* of those people to drop the role iirc.

From purely a math standpoint, it makes sense. If the actress for Ariel was white, it was just going to be a girl in a red wig.

Only if you interpret the word "depiction" as "appearance" and then immediately stop thinking about anything further. Also only if you consider every single aspect of a character's appearance to be of equal importance. Neither are particularly sensible ways to approach the matter.

He's an easy actor to typecast. Or at least he's easy enough to typecast that nobody would ever suggest that he'd make a good rebellious teenage girl, and to be fair, you can say the same about most actors.
