Also, is it just me, or does a lot of the opposition stem from people using trans, transgender and transsexual interchangeably and not realizing they mean different things?

Educate me. Cause I dont know the difference. Was never told there was one.

That's like the only thing that upsets me over anything lgbt related. People getting upset when its a simple case of one person not knowing something.

they mean pretty much the same thing.

using 'transsexual' makes you sound like youre from the 90s or a TERF or transmedicalist, just use trans or transgender

historically, transsexual was used a mental illness diagnosis and other horrible stuff, so it has a lot of baggage.
some people separate 'transsexuals' from other trans people based on one form of gatekeeping or another (e.g., they might say you need gender confirmation surgery to be a 'real transsexual' instead of just transgender), but these aren't even consistent from person to person, and it's not really worth worrying about

In modern usage, sex and gender mean different things, thus logically, transsexual and transgender mean two different things.

I am from 89 but close.

In modern usage, sex is genetics, gender is psychology and a lot of derived language is still catching up.

In either case, however, the "trans" prefix means your gender and your biological sex do not match. If we consider the concept to be binary (either your gender matches your sex or it doesn't, regardless of how binary we consider gender itself to be), the terms are interchangeable. In terms of boolean logic, they both function as "NOT."
