Spiderball everywhere you can. There's a lot of reused structures, so someplace a missile is hiding is likely to be quite a few places a missile is hiding.

Also the map isn't "flat", so you'll intuitively end up in places you didn't expect to be at the distance traveled. Some rooms are closer together than they should be, some father, and others somehow stacked together.
I noticed that. Namely, the interiors.

The whole game is basically one giant Norfair. Also, it seems clear that Mother Brain was originally supposed to be a Metroid Queen integrated into a computer system, because you can see the tusks on the 3rd form Metroid. Besides that, I suspect there is a way to break into the hatchling lair from the landing zone and snag the infant. Anyone ever done this?? Sequence breaking.

Wave beam? Plasma beam?

So this topic, in conjunction with Dread hype, made me boot up the game again.

Exploring the first are was a lot more straightforward than I remembered. If you dont use the elevators, youll have seen everything pretty quickly.

But then you do go down to Kraid or Ridleys areas and now youre fucked because the damage scaling is stupid. Also the select button is put in a stupid place on the Switch so its a pain to quickly cycle between the beam and the missiles. >_

The first Metroid would be shit on if it came out now for being SJW propaganda with how Samus gender is revealed.

Start and End areas are probably two different areas that merely look similar.
You can go back to the ship and space jump fairly high, but there's an arbitrary damage barrier.

The behavior of Secret Worlds makes me wonder otherwise. As it turns out, Nintendo actually propagated the behavior of using them in the original Metroid. I forget what they called them, Hideouts or something.

You can find save-points & all kinds of junk & it works basically everywhere. In theory, you could Select Glitch inside a hidden zone to enter... another hidden zone. Im just now beginning to experiment with it, so I dont know if there are power-ups available in some of them.

Im reading that secret worlds have save-points & enemies, so I suspect theres some fun to be had here.

I learned about invincibility, the infinite Save Glitch, and the lava skip the other day.

Why I am so interested in this is.... because Metroid II always felt so linear to me. Like, it opens up a little when you get to a new L , but I never found any obvious shenanigans like in M1 or SM. On that note.........

turns out theres a literal ton of sequence breaking you can do in Fusion LOL. The way to play would be grabbing upgrades via the cheat & skipping E-Tanks to gimp myself.

Looking at the Nintendo maps, the first Metroid hive is closest to the final area (the caves with 4 or more Metroid bosses at the end of deadend corridors), so Im sort of looking for Secret Worlds around there right now. ^.^

I havent delved into what other players have discovered in them yet.

The way the map is laid out, an area being "close" to another area doesn't mean much.

Looks like it really is two different areas. You may be able to sneak over to the end by going right from the start.

Start is highlighted in the editor. The red square is the identical/reused room from the end.

Your health defaulting to 30 every life is such a pain in the ass.

I think Zelda did the same thing by only giving you three hearts, but for some reason it felt more tolerable there >_>
There were fairy springs you could visit to get huge chunks of life back as well as a potion but that cost lots of money.

Metroid had nothing. You had to farm energy pellets.

Okay I changed my mind fuck this game. Literally hide the fucking thing below an acid pit.

I gave up and looked up a map lol. Apparently you can sequence break and get the Varia suit really early. But idk if Im motivated to keep going. Will probably just replay Zero Mission.

The waver in that area can be coerced into going up the shaft into the room where you are supposed to have Jump Boots. Freeze it with the Ice Beam and make the jump. Same way you get the E-Tank next to where you first spawn (the one on the ceiling)

Im neither recommending that you attempt this on your first playthroughs nor am I suggesting that you dont do it. Whether you enjoy playing hug the waver under the respawning bricks will likely vary largely from player to player.

An easier trick would be just to head into Ridleys area, grab the slew of Missiles at the top, and then grab jump boots & Screw Attack. That way you can explore the game in god mode after going back for Varia :)

Grab at least the first E-Tank to make life easier. Its on the way and the flyers in Ridleys area are brutal. They do like 20 damage or something ridiculous like that.

Edit: you need the Morph Ball & Bombs to get Screw Attack!

If we were in a game shop, basically I would agree with you 100%. The remakes are actually nothing like the originals though....

If Kraid is kicking your ass, the cheeseball strategy is to just bomb the bastard the death, tanking the damage.

Another cheeseball strategy, for Ridley, is to get the wavebeam and shoot throught the floor while jumping in the lava. Sometimes though, Ridley's fireballs break and go right over you, so you can stand right next to it and shoot at your leisure.

Kraid you need to walk up to him and shoot him with Missiles point-blank (this is easier if you take out Ridley first) - Normally his spikes block the missiles, but that doesnt work at point-blank lol. Like you said, just tank his attacks.

Ridley... little trick..... you can stand right under him and go to town. Classic

I just beat Metroid 2 for the Gameboy. It actually, once you get past initial annoyances, is really fun. I also feel it hits it's tone perfectly. There were parts I felt pretty creeped out by.
