Maybe he didn't know until having a child that he wasn't fit for being a father and dedicated his life to a bigger picture. I'm not saying it's right, but what do you do when you don't realize you're toxic to a situation until you already started playing the role? I feel like people usually vision the alternative being a fairy tale family that is highly unlikely. I feel like Jecht is someone who would be self aware of his attitude and realize it might be damaging to someone's growth. Of course, this is all theorizing, but that's the beauty of art. I say this as someone who feels like minimum exposure to my own dad turned out to be for the better. Not that he's an evil guy, but he doesn't really practice empathy or sympathy. Also, as someone who mocks kids to their face >_>.
