It all stems back to moral high ground political power, and probably at the mercy of the credit card companies. They do it to get investors and throw everyone else under the bus.

It's ok, there's sometimes a dark sad little secret that gets revealed in the process. I doubt you'd followed the sad plane crash that is AI Dungeon, but they got 3.3 mill in funding and at the end of April they basically threw all their users/customers under the bus claiming they were using it for shady pedophillic content. If you resisted/complained about the still to this day broken filter, you got called a pedo. Guess what? The damn developers and OpenAI themselves used pedophillic content to train the AI and instead cast the blame on the users when the AI itself will generate it. They also now auto-suspend users if the AI generates specific words like 'girl' or numbers. It's a real shitshow and none of this would have happened if they didn't decide to have a moral high ground because of less than 1% of the users doing it. Now everyone knows about it.

Btw, it's gotten far worse than just CP. They're also leaking/out sourcing users data and re-activating cancelled subscriptions on deleted accounts.

I know this is a bit late, but I was busy watching stuff and dealing with cats.

Yeah, they themselves actually ended up doxxing some actual 15 year old including his school, name, address, etc. All because your stories/content gets dumped on some third party server to be read and scrutinized by some one else publicly.

All this to "protect the kids" when they themselves baked some pretty messed up stuff into the AI. I can't even really describe the material they used. Completely out of the blue I had the AI generate "We're living in the golden age of pedophilia" which in itself is wtf, but there wasn't a child in sight. Then I found out it was actually directly part of the training material word for word.

Their filter doesn't work, because the AI still generates it on its own, then trips the filter and suspends you for 1/7 days. They also intend to expand the filter, so that trash heap will be hilarious.

All in all the whole situation has flipped from being "Maybe they'll come around" to "Let's see what's new today" for the last 2 months. I too almost subscribed, but didn't yet. Someone actually got charged 5 times after unsubbing. It's... yeah.
