not looking forward to this. Big stuff is already in storage as of last week. Since then, as I've been packing, cleaning and slacking off a lot due to anxiety about it, I've been sleeping on the floor on a makeshift air mattress (by which I mean a long, folded thing of bubble wrap that my computer came with that I never threw out and a few comforters. Really not uncomfortable surprisingly). Today is the day committed to actually be out though (technically don't "need" to be out until July 1st but landlord preferred I be out early). Not evicted or anything. Just having major renovations done on my apartment, which I have known about long in advance. Landlord made it very clear that I'm an ideal tennant and he would like me to come back after (I'm month to month so I had the option either way) and while the rent will be going up by a lot, it's understandable since he has allocated a whole month into his schedule to renovate so it will cost him a lot up front and also this will be the first rent raise I've had in the nearly 8 years I've been here (I was living here before he even bought the house lol). I'm anxious about today but I'm anxious about everything always -_- so getting a little morning-into-afternoon buzz going to calm my nerves. Mostly just a little bit of cleaning left to do and then actually physically moving what is left. Not looking forward to dealing with my AC unit. Much lighter than previous one but still pretty fucking annoyingly heavy :/

I think that's what people call topics like this...

Where are you moving and how far are you moving?

Moving is a pain. You probably don't have to worry about cleaning a lot if he is doing major renovations.

about 15 minutes away. Gonna be staying with my parents until I get back. Thankfully they moved this spring. They were over an hour away before. I already have a storage unit rented and the big stuff is in there already and there is more room for more stuff today. Parents' new house is pretty small though so only has room for important stuff. Their old house was much larger but also much further away and multiple trips would have been annoying (plus if landlord needs me around for anything in the meantime, I'm not far)

The rent should not go up a lot for you if you come back just a modest amount

I hate moving too. As bad as my rental is I still did not want to move. I was put on month to month so

I was so happy when I found a place!!!

The downer is that the guy in there said he had not found a place. Now I am praying he clears out before my lease starts.

yeah I mean I knew well enough in advance and we discussed it. Obviously I'm not on the hook for rent in July as I will be gone for the whole month, but I'm not trying to look for technicalities. I moved out for a months last year due to covid and I was still paying rent even though I wasn't here. It was my choice and I didn't want to lose the place, plus I didn't know how long I was going to be away. This is a bit different yeah but again, not having to pay rent for the arranged month I'm gone.

It's going up from 550 to 700 so more than modest, but as I said, it hasn't been raised in the 8 years I've been here and 700 is still at the very bottom of rent in the area for a living situation without roommates, plus he is redoing the whole place. New bathroom, new floors and walls, new kitchen (minus oven because he replaced that a few years ago so it's already knew). He is sinking quite a bit into the place and already renovated his own apartment (next door) and the apartment (family/2 br) upstairs as well as some work on the outside, so it's understandable. Maybe I could have negotiated down a little bit, but given the market around here, 700 still sounded generous all things considered.

yeah. It was worse last time. My parents were not in the area to help and my friend flaked on me after agreeing and wasn't available for a week after so some of my moving had to be done via duffel bag on the bus in 90+ weather. That was not fun and one of the days I was moving out of my previous place and cleaning, I literally got sick from the heat. Technically it was because I drank like 2-3 gallons of water in under an hour but yeah, it was 100 out and I didn't do that for fun lol >_>

my landlord wanted to get access to my apartment before the lease was up. there was alot to move in a short time period despite work needs of my roommate

had to tell him it wasn't ready. probably burned another landlord despite paying rent on time.
(happened last year).

My rent is on autopay and the bleeps emailed me a late rent notification this month. So happy to see the last of this place. It is like they did everything that they could to ruin my tenant's record.

Thanks. I just hope I didnt forget anything, but odds are I didnt. Landlord was probably in already. He was having a painter show up so they could figure out what he wanted to do and I heard nothing so that is probably a good sogn.
