I remember thinking that Link was an unlockable character for the longest time because they used his name as one of the record holders or something.

It's alright but not really worth $60. The golf mechanics have been simplified compared to previous titles. The single player content is rough. Not much to do and Golf Adventure, the story mode, is fairly lackluster.

The online portion has too many options honestly. I find it best to just create the lobbies myself. Standard golf with 9 holes and everyone going at the same time is fairly fun. I wish online tournaments were a thing, though.

there has been like zero effort put into every mario sports over the last decade. i don't even know if it's all Nintendo, Camelot might just be a complete shell of itself

It's decent. If you liked past games and got some friends to play with there's a lot of fun to be had

I see people say this a lot and it's...kind of true, but I think a lot of it went into the spin mechanics. If you want to hit far by all means go power and control and ignore spin, but if you invest a lot into spin you can make your ball zig zag in the air or hook a really sharp right angle mid air. You can do insane stuff if you have an understanding of the "four" levels of spin. I think that's the coolest feature of the game is that you can control the spin of the ball at different points in the trajectory of the ball.
