from what I've seen, it looks like you can choose between one of two pre-made characters, and you need to play them both for the whole story.

I've played the game for a few hours already on PS5. The combat is good so far but I'm kind of mixed on the story and characters. I've heard the story goes from 0 to 100 at some point so I'm looking forward to that.

Tbh Looks like a typical anime game that fills a very specific niche and is never fun. These existed since the days of .hack g and hyper Neptune and other such bargain bin games.

I've been watching some gameplay videos, and the psychic powers look pretty cool, IMO, and I like how fast paced the combat looks.

All everyone says is it's not a soulslike because of the obvious comparison to CV. Wtf is it then? None of the trailers really help. A DMC type action game? A turn based rpg?

basically, it looks like Nier: Automata, but with better combat (what a reviewer said) and psychic powers.

I also heard there were segments where you can interact with companions, like in Persona, where you can build your relationship with them, which will improve on your powers.

Its basically a hodge podge of different JRPG elements. I played through the tutorial last night and it felt pretty fun. Its probably got some Nier: Automata action with some Persona bonding elements and also some overworld exploration it seems

It is JRPG the trope. I am 15 hours in on the girl side. Think of every JRPG trope and horrible dialogue and you have this game.

I'm not sure how my expectations should be on that front, I just want something decent and entertaining with no plot hole or out of character bs. I read that the character interactions with each other are nice and that the game is really low/almost nonexistent on fanservice, so I think I'll be happy when I manage to play it.

I havent played Kasanes storyline yet but as for Yuito, his storyline is fine but has a few glaring flaws. The biggest problem is that very little is explained until about two-thirds of the way into his storyline. The player is just as confused as he is about whats going on in the plot.

For Kasane, Ive heard her storyline is much easier to follow and understand. I think she was meant for players to start first since the world and its history are actually explained in her route while youre already expected to know about them in Yuitos route.

I think youll find plenty of enjoyment to be had in this game as long as you like anime at least. The story manages to become more interesting as the game progresses but it has a few rough spots along the way.

im in phase 5 of the girl's story, haven't played the dude's story yet

my god the "sidequests are bad" thing is not an exaggeration. have yet to find one with a worthwhile reward.

the story is pretty solid so far, im pretty interested. some of the characters are pretty bland, but a few of em have personality that make them stand out.

combat is definitely smooth and pretty fun. enemies arent very spongey but also dont go down in three hits, so you still get to wail on em for a bit, but not to a point where each one becomes a chore.

the bonding episodes are decent enough

equipment system extremely simple, little room to customize. tons of visual stuff but that doesnt appeal to me, im not one of those people who likes having a goofy looking character standing out of place in an important cutscene. skill tree is only slightly less simple, i do wish there was a little more depth but you kinda get a majority of the combat opened up to you pretty early on (which is fine, gives you more time to get used to it with the combos and whatnot, just doesnt leave them much room to expand)

also the soundtrack is pretty great. has some absolute bangers early on. i was straight up vibing to the background music of the main city while i was doing laundry, which is something i literally NEVER do, i usually just turn on some background tv show

another negative im reminded of though is the areas are extremely corridor-ey. no room to explore, only items that are "hidden" are respawnable and they're basically healing items and materials. definitely a linear game.

at this point, im not so sure im happy with $60, but im gonna have to see how long i get out of the two stories (and maybe an epilogue chapter if one happens to unlock after you complete both, a la sonic adventure 2 battle) before passing final judgment.

Ive finished the male protags story and Ill start the female protags story probably sometime next week. This is definitely a wait for a sale type of game and I got it for reduced price at Walmart. $40 USD or less is good price to pick this game up.

The combat becomes better as the game progresses. You just need to unlock the right abilities first. However, one big negative always present in the combat is that you have to commit to your actions. This means no canceling out of attacks which is a big deal since attack animations are somewhat long. Expect to get hit quite a bit until you master the combat and learn enemy patterns. Also, side quests arent worth doing.

Some characters have good arcs. Other remain bland the whole game. Its a mixed bag regarding the characters.

I recommend playing as the guy first overall since the girls storyline will spoil all the twists if you do her first. However, if you plan to only play the game once, just play as her then unless you want faster paced combat.

Music is surprisingly great as is the visuals.

Story has lots of twists that you can see coming from a mile away. It also has twists that are completely out of left field. There are plot holes but if you ignore them, then its an enjoyable story. If you cant ignore the plot holes, youll end up thinking the story is lackluster but with a few hype and laugh worthy moments.

I will say that the final boss of the game is as anime as it gets. Anyone who watches anime a lot probably knows exactly what I mean.

Lastly, keep in mind that this game has a lot of cutscenes. My playthrough for the guy ended at 23 hours. In his storyline, there are almost 11 hours worth of cutscenes. Something to think about.
