Had an Airbnb booked in chicago this weekend. It was a basement flat.

it was raining heavily yesterday, and as we were about to leave for the day, water started leaking in. Fortunately we were able to get our stuff together quickly and into the car, but couldnt stay in the place for our booked second night.

we couldnt get ahold of the host right away but let the building manager upstairs know and they helped us out.

shortly after that the host called, was very apologetic and said hed issue a full refund.

now Im getting prompts to review our stayon one hand I feel like it would be good to warn people that there is potential for flooding, on the other the people were very helpful and accommodating so I dont want to leave a bad review for something that ultimately wasnt their fault (it was intense rain, and actually the place we ate lunch at had to close early due to basement flooding)

tl;dr: should I leave a review for an Airbnb that flooded if it was a freak thing and the host was as helpful as he could be?

what would you do CE?

No. Why would you if it was a freak thing and they were helpful?

Hm. If it was me, I wouldn't mention the flooding specifically. I'd say something nebulous like "we encountered some unforeseeable issues that compromised our stay, but the host was very accommodating and issued us a full refund. would likely have enjoyed the stay if not for said issues, but the host's attitude toward same indicated that their guests' enjoyment and comfort is an actual priority"

But I've only stayed at a few airbnbs so I'm not sure if that's gauche or too vague or anything

Yea leave a positive review on the unfortunate circumstances and how much you enjoyed the space for the time you had. The owner was nice and didnt give you any problems for a refund.

I guess the thing is, I dont think its worthy of a five star review, so Id give 3 or 4 stars, but idk if its that stupid thing where anything other than a 5 is basically a failing grade so Im better off not saying anything

Are you not allowed to leave good reviews? You make it sound the the only reason to review at all is to bad mouth them.

You shouldnt take ratings so seriously. Its 5 stars or 1 star man. Be a good person and give them 5 stars. Its their business/money youre messing with when you give lower ratings.
