The family had been killing for a while, at least since the slaughterhouse started using the machine for cattle killings rather than people with hammers. They seemingly lost their jobs and resorted to cannibalism to feed themselves. But yeah its funny how in the movie only one person is killed by a chainsaw (Franklin) lol The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is just a gnarly name that sounds visceral and brutal.
