I would have said Jin, had they not turned him into Kazuya Lite in Tekken 6. So instead, I pick Heihachi; he feels like more of a "mascot" than Kazuya. Kazuya is just evil, whereas Heihachi is evil but can also be comical and oddly endearing. Dude has a unique charm.

I mean, out of the options that make sense, Jin; but the first time I really got into the story was T6's scenario campaign mode, which means for me Lars is the first to come to mind. :/

Interesting! Yeah, if the first game that got you invested was Tekken 6, then Lars will seem like he should be the main character. I started with Tekken 2, which made me think Jun was the main character. Then she and Kazuya were "dead" in Tekken 3, making their son (then-new character Jin) the apparent protagonist of the series.

Definitely. Still remember as a kid at the roller rink, when we'd get bored of skating we'd go to the arcade section where the Tekken machine was the biggest draw and literally everyone played as Eddy. It was all Eddy vs Eddy fights. Though I want to say the arcade version only had a few characters, not the full roster.

Plus he just looked cool, Lenny Kravitz was at his height at the time and they kind of look a like, plus who doesn't like breakdancing while fighting?

I don't think I've played a Tekken game since the 90s/early 2000s but he's basically the only character that I know because of that.

For those who aren't very familiar with the Tekken series, here's what each character looks like and in their most iconic outfit:

Kazuya


Heihachi


Jin

Kaz was the main character in the first game, and Jun was arguably the main character in the second game; their son becoming the main character (especially since both parents were originally dead in Tekken 3, which is where Jin makes his debut) feels the most fitting. Plus, Jin is actually a good person (pre-Tekken 6, at least).

All that being said, I like the idea of Jin being the "official" main character of the series, but Heihachi being the most iconic character (kind of like how Charlie Brown is the main character of Peanuts, but Snoopy is the breakout character). Because let's face it: Heihachi is a lovable bastard. Kazuya is just a generically evil Vegeta lookalike.
