Like $20-$40 depending on the size, and not really.

It's like at the very top of the low tier, or at the very bottom of the mid-tier at best.

The good stuff is about $60 a 5th. Tastes very smooth compared to nastier tasting tequilas like Tarantula or Cuervo

Rule of thumb with liquor is if you know the name without knowing shit about that liquor, its likely just mass marketed trash. If lucky, average fare. Or only truly good in some of the more expensive/refined options.

You can get a small bottle of Clase Azul for $50ish iirc. Or Gema is okay.

It's easier to find a good cheap mezcal than a good cheap tequila imo.

A friend of mine, a long time ago, took me to his dad's house as his dad was in the motion of building his own house (half was built, half was unbuilt).

it was pretty cool, we were sitting in a unfinished living room, watching adult swim when his dad brought out some bottle of tequila I didn't get the name from. He told me he smuggled it over the border of Mexico and it was made and distilled right in the town that he picked it up from.

The taste was smooth and could have been confused with water. It was really that good. Probably the 2nd best liquor I've ever had the pleasure of trying, right next to some moonshine that tasted like apple pie (still the first spot on my personal drinking list)

Personally? I think it was home made and given to him as a friend, but that's just me.

don julio's a good tequila because it's not shitty and it's cheap. in the case of things like tequilas, expensive doesn't automatically mean it's the best. tequila, for the most part, is tequila. some are smoother than others but all you're really calculating is burn.

patron is another good one. might be more or less priced, depending. but you can't go wrong with either don julio or patron, and you'll be getting your money's worth.

I forgot about Patron, although personally I bought Patron to impress some latino guys I used to work with about 12 years ago and their authentic reaction to that was to drink Don Julio if you really want to impress your friends. I remember that lesson and stand by it today.

Personally I wasn't a fan of Don Julio when I tried it. I like Cazul myself. At least when I am just making a margarita to drink at home, I don't usually drink just straight tequila other then trying it if I get a new brand.
