Its a very common argument to say Well, I WOULD consider going vegan, but you were soooo mean and made me feel like a bad person, so now Im not going to! As if were going to buy that or care.

If thats a common argument maybe vegans should ask themselves why they come across so poorly on such a regular basis.

I'm not sure what you expect us to do when people use the odd few outspoken people on the internet as reasons to not go vegan themselves.

I mean people itt and the one about plant based burgers are acting that way right now.

I specifically said in that other topic that most vegans I know irl are nothing like that... but a lot of people here are exactly like that.

Just admit that you dont value animal life.
This is like saying I don't value money just because I don't pick up a penny everytime I see one on the street. You could easily make a less facetious claim by saying I don't value all animal life equally which is pretty true.

I'll eat the hell out of that. Thanks.

But also I'm not the one being all dismissive and passive aggressive or whatever.

It literally is the dumbest, most off putting, and least effective possible way to go about it.

Its almost like the desire isn't to effect real positive change but to just act superior. Condemning meat eaters must be more important to you than changing minds or you'd engage more effectively and less condescendingly
Like I said, as far as a net benefit goes it might ultimately be harmful but without a doubt it does work on some people. That's the thing the "be nice to us or we're never going to change" crowd doesn't get. There's no singular approach to getting someone to go vegan. Some people see a calm, rational approach like Earthling Ed's and change. Some people look at statistics or see factory farm footage and change. Some people need their hands held and to be praised for every little step in the right direction. And some people get roasted relentlessly, take a look at their behavior, and come to the conclusion that they're wrong when nothing else got them to see that.

My point ITT is that Gary Yourofsky and Vegan Gains mock the shit out of people and they still get people to change. Is that the best form of activism? I don't know but that it actually works on some people isn't up for debate.

BTW, I'll ask you again, since you ghosted the last conversation we had about this: what would actually make you go vegan? Forget about what won't work. What would make you go, "Oh, that makes a lot of sense! I think I'll change now."

It's the saddest argument made on the internet on many a subject: if you don't make sweeping sacrifices to your life for another's benefit that means you don't care about them at all. It's surprisingly dehumanizing for a group so concerned with animal life.

Even vegans agree, based on how they brag what they eat tastes just like the real thing.

I haven't noticed allium ingredients to be any more or less prevalent in vegan junk/fast food. They seem to be in so many things either way.

It's also fairly easy to make tasty vegan food without them. I love onions and garlic, can't get enough of them, but my sister can't eat them because of a health issue. I got her the Happy Health Vegan cookbook because the author and her husband do not eat onions or garlic. There are a lot of good recipes. I'm so accustomed to garlic and onion that the dishes initially seemed kind of "flat" without them but after a week of trying out most of the recipes, I got used to it.

Also tons of blogs out there. One of the good/bad things about the vegan community is how it overlaps with dietary and allergen interests, so you can always find someone working around this or that issue or preference.
