Didn't really feel like hard rock. Felt more like an almost-okay early 2000's sort of-punk-ish alt rock.

What's happening right now is rap with punk/emo aesthetic

And what's played on alt radio is a lot of bedroom pop(Billie Eilish)

Then you got Travis Barker tryna keep pop punk alive with MGK/Willow

Old people not liking anything new, effectively keeping new fans from wanting to delve deeper into the genre. New band comes out doing something old, Oh theyre a Led Zeppelin rip-off, not cool. New band comes out doing something new This is garbage and not True Old band puts out a new album Its terrible they peaked in the 80s Old band puts out a new album with more of the same old shit This is terrible theyve just been putting out the same album for years now.

Basically this.

Rock, as a mainstream entity, "died" when the Top 40 radio stations stopped playing it.

There's still plenty of great Rock music out there. Just not on terrestrial radio.

They got more in common with Nirvana than they do with Def Leppard. It's kind of ridiculous to describe them as a glam rock band. They're nothing like that at all.

Except they cant write a melody. What you dress like has nothing to do with writing a song. Call me when they have a riff as good as Come as you are zzzzzzz

If you really think about it, rock music is a weird aberration. Individuals are almost always the star attraction. Rock's dominance in a ~50 year window is the real weird thing. Nearly every band is just "the singer and the rest of the guys." That's one other way that pop and hip hop and electronic music dominates. STAR POWER of 1 individual versus a collective of dudes and a hot singer.

The courts arent helping, for sure. Rock can only be built on so many potential chords/combinations.

if youre an upcoming artist who plays guitar theres literally no incentive to make "rock" music. you can still play guitar and make pop, rnb, hiphop, edm lol. rock is just dead. and it's funny bc certain people would have you believe rock was always going to be the top genre. now it's mia.

Like people said, I think it just got to a point where it stopped being able to innovate, at least as a mass marketable sound. And popular bands have collectively gotten increasingly doodoo over time as a result of this (with some bright spots along the way). Also people having a very specific and narrow definition of "rock" which seems to mean to often mean "if it doesn't sound like X decade it's not rock anymore"

Rock suffers from a fan base that has a snobbish attitude of fans rejecting radio music that doesn't affect other genres nearly as bad. Worse modern rock stations and class rock ones have overlapped as more of the '90s canon of the former finds its way in the latter making the lines between the two too blurry and hurt modern rock stations more than classic ones. Though a lot of old boomers won't listen to classic rock stations anymore now that bands like Alice in Chains, The Offspring and Metallica are considered classic rock.

I can't stand Imagine Dragons either but this problem of radio rejection has been going on since at least the mid 2000's.
