The really sad part about this whole situation is that if they can't find what is essentially a software/programming fix for this issue, we do not currently have any vehicle capable of going up there to fix it manually.

There's a couple of launch vehicles that have the ability to dock with the telescope, but none of them have manipulator arms nor space-walk capability. So the best we can do is hook up what amounts to an extra fuel tank and some thrusters to keep it in a stable orbit and maybe a new vehicle will be operational eventually. SpaceX's Starship is pretty much the only candidate, though, and that's several years out and would likely require a specialized version of Starship to pull off.

But it would be a tragic loss to everyone on Earth if we're unable to recover Hubble. :-(

Ol' Hubble's getting pretty old up there. Hope they can find a fix for it.

So we are now blind to any asteroids that might hit the earth damn.

And this is why we should have been properly funding NASA all these decades. If we had supported NASA properly, we probably would be able to fix this issue with Hubble in a day or 2

That's not what they use Hubble for...

The stupid thing is the very people, boomers, who spent their childhoods being Enchanted with scifi stories of adventures in space, grew up to vote against funding that would make that happen

We likely would have colonies on Mars by now if we had never stopped funding NASA
