Should voting be required by law?

And if you do not vote, you are thrown in prison. Should this be the rule from now on?

It's my right to not vote and instead roll over in bed and go back to sleep and no one is taking that away from me. I will fight to defend my right to not vote, I'll fight with my bare hands even reeeeeeeeeeee

My maid will hear about this.

No, but it should be as easy and convenient as possible to both acquire a free ID and to vote at your leisure.

Perhaps we should reward turnout Instead of punishing turnover

If you support this because you believe your side has more support but is just too lazy to vote, it's probably for the best that your side doesn't win.

If your concern is about the people who actively refuse, it's not like they're going to suddenly make a meaningful choice. They'll either spoil the ballot, or if that's too risky, they'll simply pick at random or pick a joke option or something like that.

It just really doesn't achieve anything useful.

I'll just go ahead and say it even though I know it's not popular.

Yes, it should be. Democracy fundamentally doesn't function if the people don't participate.

That being said, I think it should be incredibly easy to get exceptions and the punishment should be extremely minimal. The whole point should be to make voting the default choice, and if you don't want to vote you should have to make a conscious decision to opt-out.

Of course, this all hinges on voting being made incredibly simple and straightforward for everyone to do. If we're sticking with the setup we currently have, then no, voting shouldn't be required by law. Because it's far too difficult for many people currently to do so. And the people in power are doing everything they can to make it harder.

Not required but I like the idea of giving a tax refund for voters.

No because I'm sure that just leads to more voting on single issue shit which just helps reinforce the stagnant party system.
