It's not C+, it's not Python, it's not even command prompt, it's not anything else. SQL is literally the easiest language to learn. I know because I was able to learn it LMAO.

SQL is technically a query language if yall wanna be so god damn specific. Either way, it's still the easiest computer language to learn and SQL is still a high demanding job.

Not off the top of my head. And my job isn't to create the queries, my job is to make sure they perform at a non-breaking level.

but if you're trying to represent a data structure with any sort of complexity, using a flat structure like CSV or plain text will be a parsing nightmare. cases like that are where JSON wins.

SQL is easy to learn, difficult to master.

Sure, you can learn how to string together basic queries to bring back information from tables. And with a bit more learning you can figure out how to join stuff together.

And then you have people like the SQL developer at my work with 40 years experience, that can write update/alter/delete jobs and validation functions with if/else controls and boolean parameters that affect tens of thousands of records at once as easily and as fluently as I wrote this post.

SQL is not Turing complete without extensions or proprietary features which are themselves assemblies made in a Turing complete language. Additionally it's an interpreted language.

You may as well count the Google search bar as a programming language at that point.

Additionally it's an interpreted language.

so is Python. i dont think that disqualifies it from being a programming language.

as for the "Turing complete", it looks like someone was able to prove this w/o extensions:

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/900055/is-sql-or-even-tsql-turing-complete

anyway, i wasnt sure if it technically qualified so i was just going by what Google reported (see screenshot).

This.

I regularly process millions of records in tables with billions of records and I only write basic queries. Our actual DBAs do things like manage replication, fail over clustering, manage disk files, in memory tables, and other really complicated things.

I work for a database CRM. The reason for why this amazing gulf exists (i.e. everyone needs SQL developers and it's "easy") is because the scope for SQL is huge, per my previous post. I can find a thousand generic Sys Admin IT guys that say they know SQL, but finding an actual developer that can confidently write scripts and reports using SQL is rare.

A lot of it is speed. It's great that you know python and C++ and everything else, but if it takes you 4 hours to write a SQL script that a dedicated SQL developer can do in 40 minites, guess who's getting the job...
