I watched Attack of the Clones this morning.

I remember the Yoda/Dooku fight being a popular, if controversial, scene. What does CE think?

I think he does too many silly flips. I'd like it better if he was more of an undisputed master of tranquility, just effortlessly parrying, blocking, countering, etc., whilst standing almost completely still.

Kinda defeated the point of Yoda for me. I always imagined his style would be entirely Force-based.

I always took that to mean, don't start shit. Not "never fight"

Or "don't use the force as a means to gain power (that's the path to the dark side)"

He was defending two people both who were unable to fight at that moment, Obi-Wan and Anakin. Dooku would have killed them had Yoda not shown up.

That's the technicality of it, sure. You can make that argument if you really want to.

He defended them with the force first. He was clearly winning that standoff. Having him pull a lightsaber and go crazy with it was a step too far and ruined the mystique of the character.

I loved it. I always wanted to see what Yoda wielding a Lightsaber would look like considering his stature.

Turns out he force jumps a lot and makes for a very unpredictable opponent.

Dooku drew his saber first. "Clearly this contest cannot be decided by our knowledge of the force, but by our skill with a lightsaber."

Dooku forced Yoda's hand into a Saber fight.

Think it should've been both tbh. Would've further the sense made by Dooku resorting to causing the pillar to fall and his quickness to leave since it would've clearly demonstrated that Dooku was outmatched by his former master.

That was the idea when they were making the OT.

Though in the context of a galaxy spanning society of Jedi, I don't think it'd have made sense for them to adhere strictly to such a (more or less) stiff fighting style.

Also you can still explain off the change from PT to OT in-universe by saying that Obi-Wan was older and not nearly as mobile, that Vader was restricted by his mechanical parts, and that Luke was simply untrained.

I feel that's more a general concept, but that could be bias. It's often a fallacy of approach for a lot of people, in combat sports and even fighting games, that you can just rely on "defense and counters". The thing is that there are several situations, macro and micro, where you can be put into a position where there is no defense or counter. You attack both to win and to prevent those situations from happening.
