A bit more than 3 years, but yeah, that's ridiculously restrictive if they go ahead with that. Last I heard, 7th gen (about 4-5 yrs back) was as far back as they were going to allow on the Intel side - my main PC is one generation too old to meet that. I've been thinking about an upgrade anyway, but there just isn't a device out there that I'm really happy with at the moment (and I don't yet have any critical need to upgrade).

Didnt watch the video but basically Microsoft only want 8th gen or higher CPUs and TPM 2.0 chips. I bet they will lower the CPU requirement and probably even the TPM requirement before launch

This is the standard cycle. 10 is great, 11 will blow ass, 12 will repair and make 11 actually good, and it repeats itself.

Plenty of people bitched about 10 tbf, but it always worked well for me. Sure it sucks they are collecting more information on you, but likely just being open about it now really. And all the "bad things" are easily turned off.

It always worked great for me, especially when it went to "10.1" or whatever.

Windows 8.1 is still supported and will be until 2023, and so is Windows 7 if you know what you're doing.

I just put 11 on my gaming computer and my laptop a few days ago. My laptop was ready to go out of the box, but I had to make a change in my BIOS to get it on my gaming PC since it told me I didn't meet the requirements at first. I had to enable Intel PTT.

And yeah my processor isn't on there but it's also like 7 years old at this point probably.

I had some really weird fucking glitches when I upgraded my PC at the time from Windows 8 to Windows 10. I've encountered them on other people's PCs who upgraded, too. I've never seen the issues on a clean install, though, which is basically 99% of installs these days (chances are anyone who hasn't upgraded yet either can't, or doesn't want to).

Laptop is an i7-6700HQ. I only use that to browse the internet so don't care about support anywhere else. Desktop i9-10850k that's less than a year old so not worried about that.

Apparently it is possible to buy a TPM chip for a motherboard though. But they are like $120 I might as well buy a new motherboard and processor for that kind of money.

BUT I DON'T FEEL LIKE IT

I'll probably get around to it at some point, but it's gonna be a major operation. I'd probably need a new motherboard, new CPU, and new graphics cards to bring it up to speed with this decade.
