I never liked the story of GTA 5. Felt so fake and unrealistic. GTAIV is the best story and the best game in the series

Some of the cutscenes were pretty funny tho.

I got to the 1st house on the southside then played the rp side of that game.

...over 600 hrs later of rp dating, rp engagement, and rp wedding.

I kinda want to go back and play the game but having too much fun with the rp. Over 580 hrs in one city and i just started to rp in another lol (not imitating last rp but going a different rp route this time around

GTA IV was a slog. San Andreas was the best (for the time) but I recently downloaded it on PS4 and the controls are TRAAAASSSHH

Being able to identify with and root for your protagonist is literally one of the pillars of storytelling dating from when humans were drawing shit on cave walls.

The physics in GTA V were dialed down substancially since all the whiny kids did not want to git gud in GTA IV.

4 was too dark and depressing and it just felt hopeless. The addons I felt were better, Gay Tony and Lost and the Damned. Also the controls and car physics were trash.

5 was definitely way over the top and missions defaulted to mass murder spree too often. The controls weren't great but were less appalling than 4.

4 and 5 each had high spots and low spots that are pains in the ass. I do like 5 much better than 4 because the story doesn't depress me, the setting is better and the controls aren't so weebly wobbly.

The only major problem with GTA 4 IMO is that there is nothing to spend your money on. You complete three-leaf clover and then you set for the whole game. I wish you were able to purchase or upgrade your safe houses and purchase cars. Everything else was damn near perfect imho. I still go back to it now and again. Trying to beat the game with 0 kills lol

Having to root for the protagonist sounds like a you problem. Plenty of excellent media that has awful protagonists you don't support (unless you're a sociopath)

Not that 5 was excellent, mind, but it's not a requirement to support the main guy.

yea, the protagonists were shitty people, who were hard to root for, but I became invested in Michael's family life, and Franklin's desire to improve himself and get out of the gang life.

with Trevor, it was a bit too much, though (I mean, he's a cannibal rapist), so I just reviled in the chaos.
