I've been reading Chrysalids by John Wyndham.

It's pretty cool so far. It's about a kid growing up in a post apocalyptic Christian fundamentalist society where any sort of mutation or deviation ever so slightly is seen as an offence to God, and must be destroyed.

But the main character and his friends have a form of telepathy, but have to keep it secret.

The Stand by Stephen king. It's long as fuck and absolutely crawls along at some points, but it's still really good.

Any nonfiction recommendations, CE? I like to have one going along with my fiction reading

I just finished Bad Samaritans by Ha Joon Chang, which is a pretty great debunking of neoliberal economics at least that theyre objectively bad for developing countries.

Right now, Im picking the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin back up. Currently on Book 4. Theyre really good. Its been a while since I read a good fantasy series.

The Stand is probably the greatest novel I've ever read.

You should follow it up with The Dark Tower series.

I got bored like halfway through the first book. I'll probably give them another go someday, but it won't be anytime soon

"The Devil In The White City." It's a creative historical non-fiction about the 1890's Chicago Worlds Fair and H.H. Holmes, the most prolific American serial killer. It follows facts and stuff and the only liberties taken are about what some of the characters were thinking.

"Homicide: A Year On The Killing Streets" is about a newspaper reporter that was embedded with the homicide deoartment in Baltimore for a year in the early 80s. It was written by the same dude that did "Homicide: Life On The Street," and "The Wire."

Anyway. I'm currently reading "Sputnik Sweetheart" by Murakami. It's weird, but beautifully written.

I actual have an odd relationship with the woman. A doctor I know gave her my collection of short stories and she reached out to me to tell me she enjoyed them. I then met her at a book signing and we had a little chat (obviously after she signed my copy of the first Gamache book).

Thats really cool. I was afraid she would stop writing the series when her husband passed away. My parents and I all read this series.

At the book signing she spoke about that (gave an hour presentation beforehand) and essentially said that it was her husband who allowed her to quit her job and write full time, so after a year or so of not writing, she came to the conclusion that it would be a disservice to him if she stopped because it was something they built together.

She's a super rad chick all around.

thanks for the recommendations, but I'm not a fan of true crime stuff. It feels weird to me to seek entertainment from other peoples' misery and victimhood.

The Glorious Cause by Robert Middlekauff.

I've been wanting to get into history recently because I feel like, growing up, the public education system failed pretty hard in that regard. It's very dry in the beginning, listing off various taxes, important people, and who they're pissed off at. All these names back to back gives me flashbacks of the Simlarillion. Apart from that it's very interesting. Lots of stuff I never knew and other stuff presented in an actually interesting way.

I'm reading a book on my kindle called The Glooming. It's the first book in a series called Wrath of the Old Gods

Premise is that all the pagan gods of human history turn out to really exist and they show up and start attacking humanity in a pagan apocalypse. Book jumps around all over the world. No place on earth is safe from the gods. It's insane

Because of the way the book is set up, I feel it would make a cool TV series or mini series. But Christians would boycott it and get it taken off the air. The book confirms that the only 2 religions that seem to be made up are Christianity and Islam (Judaism seems to be real so far though)
