Demon's Souls Remake
literally every DMC title except 2
Chivalry 2 has really incredible weapon combat but the game is a shallow mess
Jedi Academy and Outcast still have the most fun lightsaber combat to this day

Problem with bloodborne is the same as DS1 and DS3, broken hitboxes, delayed AI animations and noscope 360 attacks

DS1 has the worst glitches and pvp exploits, BB has some of the best hitbox registration, especially today, than most triple a action games.

Basically none of those problems exist in the current BB patch.

This might be obscure, but I loved The Mark of Kri.

You get a bunch of weapons and learn brutal combos. The axe was my favorite one.

Hell yeah, Mark of Kri mention. I forgot about that. Good stuff. I still remember the commercial for it. That was a fun one.

One of the few really good things about Kingdoms of Amalur. You can use weapons normally, including those kickass rings, or drop a friggin' meteor to nuke the battlefield. So satisfying.

honestly a lot of DnD RPGs are incredibly satisfying once you get over the beginning hump because your party ends up with very specific class feats and or utility that just synergizes so good with magic buffs from your sorcerers/wizards that even your fighters just auto-hitting is a glory fight for the ages

then you got story speech checks and scripted situation dice rolls that also make your character feel like theyre more than just a lackey companion

the systems are kinda intense though

I once played the demo of like MH3GU or something on 3DS and thought it was pretty lame. You could choose a ton of weapons but it didn't feel satisfying to fight.

Is the PC Monster Hunter a big step up from that?
Playing on a real platform instead of a dinky, pathetic handheld is going to make a massive difference. I tried MH4U a long time ago and had trouble getting into it. It just seemed far too complex of a game to play on the 3DS. But I played Rise this year and loved it. The gameplay is incredibly satisfying.

I saw it mentioned a few times in here, but I have to say both Nioh games. The combat is excellent. So many different weapons and ways to play. Both games are favorities of mine.

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning had fairly fun (if OP) combat.
I'll say this... the way they handled Staves was great in that game: gather enemies together, knock them away, etc. Staves really flowed well with the spells. It's just that the spells themselves were ridiculously powerful: stealth damage Meteor, Lightning Storms, Mark of Fire against 7 targets, etc.

Cemith posted...
there's no sense of range, no enemies really ever stagger, and there's no weight to melee combat.
But there is... and staggers are an essential part of doing well in the combat. The weight thing is valid though. By mentioning a lack of staggers you're inadvertently announcing that you didn't use animation cancels when playing Skyrim. Power swings, of which you could get infinite if you eat some Vegetable Soup at the start of a combat zone, cause staggers when enemies aren't attacking. You can cancel attack animations into a power swing. So usually you get a rhythm going of: power swing to stagger, normal swing, normal swing, animation cancel back into a power swing to repeat the pattern. It's not complex by any means; but I'll take it over Eurojank anyday.

Ah, right. Forgot about the power swings. When I played Skyrim the only parts I found fun were the magic bits, like the college and leveling up stuff like conjuration and offensive magic. The way you mention animation cancels leads me to believe it's an exploit though. Which could be considered combat, but probably not for a newcomer.

I stand corrected, people do stagger. Still feel the same about weight and effective range, however.

Dead Cells has really satisfying, fast paced combat that somehow feels weighty even in 2D

Hunt: Showdown has really good gunplay

Bloodborne is one of the only games I've ever considered nearly perfect, there's not a bad moment in that game imo. The combat is incredibly fluid, rewards aggression, has just the right amount of weight, every weapon feels unique and viable, and the sound when you pull off a gun parry and hit the riposte is like dopamine injected right into your brain

It's really only held back by some fps issues. For some reason it never got a ps4 pro patch or a ps5 patch iirc
