For those that don't know, Alienware actually uses the highest TDP RTX 3080 of any manufacturer and this model delivers roughly the same performance as a desktop RTX 3070 (with more RAM).

My cousin offered to buy my Razer Blade to take to college, so I decided now was the time to max it out.

Apparently, pretty good. The entire reason for the X17 refresh was to introduce a vapor chamber cooling system with more fans.

Also the CherryMX mechanical keyboard was only a $45 upcharge. Seemed worth it.

I'm not going to lie... The title made me think this was about Uber, the company, making it's own line of laptops. Not just a really strong laptop lol.

But yeah, that's a beast of a laptop. The design of it looks pretty nice too.

The only thing I might regret is the amount of RAM. From what I understand, it's soldered. That said, 16 GB should be more than enough for gaming-centric stuff.

I was going to go with AMD, which unfortunately they don't have in the x17 model, but apparently the 11th generation mobile CPUs from Intel actually moved to a smaller process, and they run much cooler. So that's nice.

Here's a review of the 3070 model. Looks like the thermals are excellent, although I imagine the 3080 with the higher TDP of 165 Watts might be hotter. Turns out the ram actually is replaceable, as is the SSD. So that's nice.

I never understood all the Alienware hate.

I've had two Alienware laptops and they both kicked ass for when I actually had them.

But I never pay full retail price for prebuilds.

They're actually pretty reasonably priced, too, assuming you buy on their website and use coupon codes.
$2,600 for that laptop is actually slightly cheaper than the myriad of much weaker Max Q 3080 laptops. Plus the 4K 120 Hz screen (not all that common) and mechanical keyboard.

One thing I am concerned about, I wanted to get a QHD panel (1440p) but they didn't have it. It was either 1080p at 360 hz, or UHD at 120 HZ. With a GPU that powerful, 1080p seems like a waste. Still, I doubt a lot of future games will run great at 4K, so hopefully 1440p on a 4k monitor looks okay.

They take forever to respond and say no to everything, although in all fairness they replaced my power adaptor like three times.

That also means the adaptor failed three times -_-

I'm concerned that the stock RAM is apparently the high density shitty RAM that plagued the Radeon 6800M laptop. But RAM is getting so complicated with XMP vs non-XMP, CL, rated speed vs actual speeds, high density vs low density, etc.

Seriously?

The Power Adaptor is one of the most important parts of your LapTop, how the hell did they manage to eff it up 3x?

Yeah, shoddy RAM seems to be a big issue in the LapTop world right now.

Shopping for RAM is such a pain holy crap

There are so many DDR4 3200 chips that are only that speed via XMP and overclocking, and so many chips without guaranteed x8 (instead of high density x16)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08C4X9VR5/

This is the best I could do. Wish I could find cheaper, but at least it'll significantly improve performance.

I confirmed that the ram that comes with the Alienware is high density 2Rx16
So I decided to order my own ram upgrade that I can install when it gets here, which is surprisingly hard to figure out the since a lot of RAM is actually slower than rated speeds and abuses the XMP configs to get up to their supposed rated speed.

Can't go wrong with Crucial imo
