IIRC melee is busted but the game isn't exactly hard in any context
A lot of people love either pouring points into Speech and talking people to death, or leaving Intelligence at 1 to get Low Int dialogue. The writing is a standout feature of the game, so that's probably why. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Doe posted...
IIRC melee is busted but the game isn't exactly hard in any contextI was thinking about this maz int/chr build. It's basically a skill check build. Supposed to be pretty annoying at first, though. Dunno if I want to be crippled for a good portion of the gams. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Yeah if you don't invest into physical attributes you might want to develop some stealth to get crit damage or just skip encounters. And prioritize long guns I suppose.
IIRC there's a 'bobblehead' item for each attribute scattered around the game. Since every attribute caps at 10, it's worth only investing up to 9 at character creation so you don't waste points. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I was fond of the 'Commando' style: 9mm SMG, combat rifles, grenade rifle, etc. Ammo types can be important too. E.g. people panic about Cazadors but I usually just directed some 9mm Hollowpoints their way and watched them poof like smoke. Similarly the grenade rifle was great against Legion assassination squads. One or two grenades would shred them, and then you could loot all their weapons. I forget the name but remember there were some decent .308 round chambered rifles subject to Commando that did well enough punching holes through Deathclaws and Giant Radscorpions.
Speaking of... Jury Rigging is a great perk worth taking so get your Repair skill to 90. It lets you repair rare/unique items with common trash from the same type category. This also has the benefit of making it easier to get money. To take the Legion assassination example, you can use the cheaper rifles they carry to repair the rarer ones and then sell those for greater caps. If you like explosives at all the Mad Bomber perk is fun. By crafting MFC Grenades(Micro Fusion Cells, basically ammo for laser weapons) you get infinite explosives. It also lets you craft an overkill version of the Time Bomb, IIRC. That bomb basically obliterates anything nearby when it detonates. --- "I'd rather betray the world than let the world betray me." -Cao Cao ... Copied to Clipboard!

If you're going for a crit build the Ratslayer is a fun item. As a unique Varmint Rifle you might expect it to be weak, but thanks to the 5x critical multiplier it can effectively snipe targets to death with relative ease.
