This is why I learned to be anti tip, growing up in WA state. It is like the highest minimum wage in America. And they also have a law that waiters are paid that wage unlike in other states

At least in WA state, waiters are greedy and scam artists

why are customers guilt tripped into tipping? hate the establishment not the customer. Going to a fancy restaurant where the food is already super expensive and there's an automatic gratuity charge for just existing

Not for existing, for choosing to eat out.

Don't make the choice to eat out if you can't be decent and tip the underpaid restaurant worker.

Then tell the owners to pay their workers better. Tipping is mostly an American thing. Waiters in other countries survive just fine without tips

by eating out I'm accepting the terms of agreement of paying a ridiculous amount for a small amount of food. I shouldn't be pressured to compensate for the employee's lack of pay. That's the employer's responsibility !!!!! I TIP BECAUSE IT IS THE SOCIAL NORM!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!

Many, many years ago, I was in Union Station near DC and there's an Asian restaurant in there. The food absolutely sucked and we left a meh-sized tip, but suitable. The chef literally ran out of the restaurant at us like "WHERE TIP WHERE TIP" .... we gave him a dollar more, but these days, I would have told him "cook better next time"

People should be considered bad people for not wanting to tip. Businesses need to pay their workers more. People are already willing to buy expensive food and use pricey services.

I don't agree with the custom, but if it's going to exist, then the right thing to do is to tip if you can, and that's assuming you make the decision to eat out in the first place. Asking the owner to please pay their workers a living wage (or what?) won't do a thing and we both know that. You just don't want to tip.
I see what you're saying. It's basically a "the system does suck but since it exists, don't punish those having to work in it," right?

Why, in countries where they do get minimum wage, are waiters the one that are supposed to be tipped but few other minimum wage professions are as well?

Always seemed weird to me why we should still tip our waiters here, but people would think you were odd if you wanted to tip a retail worker or the like.
