Yes, another pit bull topic, but still, I'm curious why people get these dogs in the first place.

I've known pit bulls who were very cute and loved to be snuggled and play. My dog has also been attacked by a pitbull

They're common, generally quite friendly (like most dogs), are seen as guard dogs by many (they're not, but since they're muscular and intimidating, they have that perception) and are energetic as well which is typically seen as a plus since people like playing with their dogs. I had pitbulls in the past and they're usually sweet dogs.

If they bond so closely with their owners, why is there a news story about a pit bull mauling its owner to death on a weekly basis?

Like I said my dog was attacked by a pit -- I think they do have an innate drive to fight, just like my schnauzer has an innate drive to dig for mice.

Pair that with the irresponsible people that get dogs and you have a "bad" breed

My sister in law has a pitbull. He constantly gets bullied by their other dog, an older poodle despite being like 4x her size. He's a sweet dog afaik
