I got into chess with the whole chess explosion that happened during the pandemic, anyone in the same boat? whats your elo rating? what openings are your favorites? Im currently at 1150 and I enjoy playing the Scotch for white, I feel like its a pretty intuitive open to learn for beginners like me, for black I generally play symmetrical opens but I've had some success with the Modern defense.

I quit because it was too addictive to me, started playing at the end of March, was up to 1330 when I stopped a few weeks ago, learned almost everything from the chessbrah channel, they made a "Building Habits" series that was quite helpful where you basically learn to make good solid moves even if it's not always the best move according to the engine, you just end up making way less blunders/mistakes

nice gonna check that out, i've been looking for stuff like that to help me make less mistakes, i get what you mean about being addictive though

they made vids with the highlights on youtube but I just watched it on twitch in their videos section because you get to see way more games, the guy doing it is very entertaining as well as being a crusher at chess

I love chess. I have been playing since I was 8 years old. I tend to lean towards asymmetrical opens these days.

It was one of the first games that I became obsessed with and allowed me to appreciate what games could be (aside from videogames, that is).

I even have a chess pawn tattooed on my body.

I played competitively as a kid, stopped in like 7th grade after winning my state championships cuz I didn't like it lol. I think ELO was like 1300 ish

I started on Chess.com in 2016 then depression kicked in and I stop playing for a while. This post made me want to the start playing again lol

Used to play the fianchetto English, then did King's Gambit, now mostly play Queen's Gambit

French Defense and Dutch Defense as black

When I was younger I played IRL at tournaments. Now I play online, though not as much as I used to.

I play the Ruy Lopez and Sicilian.

Honestly I like Fischer-Random (Chess960) better. Recently playing some 5d Chess as well.

More than all of that I'm a serious go player.
