Is Fallout 4 more of a shooter?

Without mods 3 > 4 > NV

NV> 4 > 3

However I enjoyed 3 as much or more as NV because I didnt know what I was missing at the time and it was new to me

New Vegas was my personal game of the decade, and is in a league of its own compared to the other two. 4 actually managed to improve certain things that really bothered me about 3, which ultimately helped me to view 4 in a more favorable light than most. I have no desire to ever revisit 3; at this point 4 scratches what few Fallout itches NV can't reach, like settlement-building (too bad 4's all but broken now on XB1 thanks to the Creation Club updates).

4's gunplay is worlds ahead of the others, so yeah, I'd say it's more of a shooter, which isn't a bad thing, it feels great. My favorite is New Vegas, but I like them both for their own experiences they offer.

i played 4 and NV and neither really clicked for me. Did not really enjoy them. Which is strange because they are similar in gameplay to Skyrim which is like a top 5 game ever for me. Maybe I will give them another try one of these days

Literally love NV for all the reasons I dont like FO3 and Vice versa. Ive only played NV and 4 with mods, maybe 3 can surpass NV with mods but I dont think so

3 is like the morrowind of the bethesda fallout games, but without the compelling story or interesting world. the mechanics are janky as fuck, which makes sense seeing its the first open world shooter they made.

NV is everything 3 was but with a story written by people that give a damn. they tried to polish the mechanics, but you can only do so much with a turd. map design is still crap though.

4 is back to shit story, but the mechanics are head and shoulders above 3 and NV. if we completely disregard story (base or modded) id say that 4 was better then NV, but NV obviously has the better story and dlc. to be fair though there are some good story mods for 4 which helps. also, i really love the settlement building with mods.

3 is better right off the bat if you don't want to spend a few hours setting up bug fix mods
otherwise skip 3 and take a few hours to fix NV and make it slightly more stable and play that.

To be fair

If you start with 3, youll be busy for a very very long time

Unfortunately by the time I got around to NV I wasn't nearly as tolerant of jank compared to when I played 3.

NV is also missing a lot of what made Fallout 3 a sensation

it redefined what we think of as nuclear holocaust fiction

with mods 4 is the most enjoyable for me

I actually tried 3 about 10 years ago or more but I didn't understand it. Turned me off.

I didn't know where to go or what to do next.

I might be biased towards 3 since it was the first one I played (out of those 3) thus I put the most time into it, but I loved the exploration and setting in 3 so much more than the other two. NV had the better "RPG elements" with the quest choices and overall karma system. 4 was great from a pure gameplay perspective, and there were some quests that I enjoyed the hell out of, but the actual roleplaying and quest choices were lacking compared to 3 and NV. Love them all though.

1 NV. Mostly because of the story and characters.

2 Fallout 3. Mostly for nostalgia. It was a great game when it came out but its not aging well.

3 Fallout 4. Its only a lazy game. Same music and basically the same story as 3. Beths still doesnt understand the fallout world. Most players i know will talk about how they got sucked into the settlement building and not the game itself.

New Vegas is king. FO4 sucks in many ways, but I rank it higher than FO3 because it (FO4) has better gunplay and you can dick around with settlement building. FO3 has some okay quests and an interesting world, but it'd show its age by now. I do like some of its DLC, though (The Pitt!!).

4 dummed down the leveling process way too much, stripping away a lot of RPing elements. On top of that, they focused too damn much on the settlements so the rest of the game is kinda lacking.

I watched my friend play 4 and the changes they made to the RPG system made me decide to catch it when it was on sale.

Pretty much exactly this, except I feel a lot less forgiving of 4.

None of it feels like Fallout. Everything is brightly colored, ambient music is relatively cheerful, environments are all boring as hell (except the Glowing Sea, A+ on that), power armor and a deathclaw get thrust upon you from the getgo and kinda ruin how legendary they both feel, RPG elements are severely lacking (choices are barely choices, your character already has a well-established background and drive that bleeds into every main quest conversation you have [which, finding your baby is a lot less relatable than finding your dad. Every time my char would start doing the "B-b-but where's Shaun!?" spiel, it was so jarring from what I wanted to be and so fucking schmaltzy]), radiant quests are garbage, most normal quests are also garbage, thankfully the building element isn't really forced upon you more than once - it's okay, but man does it get repetitive and there are a lot of settlements, antagonists motivations make no sense, build-a-weapon isn't great, and I'm gonna stop here or I'll just whine about Fallout 4 all day.

They did great with companions though. Really liked how much thought and effort went into some of them (Nick).
