Have you ever been in a house that had an "elevator" before?

A 7 y/o boy was killed while on family vacation after he got caught between the inner and outer elevator and was crushed!!

It happened at a BEACH HOUSE in North Carolina renting for about 14,000 a week as it comes just days when federal regulators pushed elevator manufacturers to block th gap bthat allows children to fit between the doors

Police were called at around 7pm after receiving reports of a child trapped in an elevator

When they arrived, teh boy was trapped between the bottom of the elevator car and the home's upper door frame

They tried to resuscitate the boy but were unsuccessful and was pronounced dead at the scene

The family was visiting from Ohio and had just arrived to begin their vacation

Sheriff Melton said they aren't sure how it happened and stated "The child was entrapped in the doors. We were able to free him but his head and neck were crushed by the elevator. He died of traumatic injuries sustained in the elevator mishap"

This is the first elevator death he has ever witnessed in his lifetime as they are rare but experts say this is exactly why these gaps need to be resolved for accidents like this and the elevator industry was aware of this for decades but never acted upon it when it is a simple fix of just $100

But when the feds pushed for safety improvements in 2019, they received backlash from officials stating and said the problem was complicated and not their responsibility.

At least 8 children were killed in elevator entrapments since 1981 though elevators inside houses is rare with only 100K-200,000 homes that have them

Have you ever seen an elevator inside a house before?

tbh, most fixes are relatively cheap.

Yes, but it wasn't as nice as that one.

The entryway is really neat, but jfc is that a McMansion.

Why would you design an elevator that way in the first place?

You see it in condos a lot, especially if the elevator leads directly to a bedroom. It's so you can lock the door to your room but still allow others to use the elevator to get to the other floors.

I think he meant leaving a gap big enough for a child to fit in between the 2 doors

Yeah, it's so one set can still function and the other can be locked.

I don't see why you think that gap is necessary. They could make it like a regular elevator just with a lock on the room side
