Depends on the game. Usually if I look stuff up it's for an RPG. I like to have an idea of which stats or skills are useless before going in.

Just play usually, but if you can create your character I might look at a wiki for more information.

Play the game unless there are misables. I usually ask that question ahead of time. I dont actually look up guides beyond that because it takes the fun out of it

I usually check to see if there's missables and gamebreaking glitches and maybe a couple of tips. But otherwise I go in blind >_>

If I get stuck or have a branching path, I look it up almost immediately. I min/max to optimize stuff a LOT too

I look up if games have very specific features like a block or parry before I buy them because I'm weird

Ive been trying to be better about not looking at guides I only use it in RPGs with really convoluted systems like DnD

I do sometimes glance around for decisions or the best decisions but Ive been liking just rolling with the decisions and seeing how they play out.. I guess its cause I generally wont play a game twice in a row. I like the magic of the first pass, forgetting about it and letting desire sort of naturally build up until things arent as fresh in my mind

I look for guides because I dont want to miss anything important. I want to enjoy the entire game and not have to reset because I realized that I missed something.

Trial and error is the fun part. I get bored with most games as soon as the challenge is gone.

RPGs kind of fuck me up.

As Ive gotten older, Ive had a greater tendency to use a guide to ensure I dont miss anything. Which kind of takes a lot of fun out of stuff.

Play till about half way before looking up a guide (unless I'm stuck for over and hour). Even then that guide is just to see if I missed anything, and a very brief skim over what to expect going forward.
