Youre more likely to get drug tested, but anything gives you more dignity than a food job. Fast food literally needs to go away.

Not really a factory. It was more like a warehouse that creates pressed wood and then another area drills holes into pressed wood furniture and then the last area of the warehouse packages the furniture items for Wal-Mart. It sucked ass.

2 breaks and a 30 hour lunch, and the rest of the time you're standing in one spot moving stacks of wood onto a conveyor. There are lifers that were there for like 10+ years. F***ing insane.

yeah the way i see it. A whole lot of people still want to eat fast food but no one really wants to work there. This problem wasn't as bad in past yrs though. The pay is low too

Mine was minimum wage, stand un one spot for 8 hours, one randomly timed 20 minute break, and I had no one to talk to and couldn't have headphones

I quit after a month. I was happier living out my car.

Yeah. Temped at a few different ones, got hired on one and stayed there for about six more months (about nine in total) before I got sick of the long commute.

The one I got hired at was a pretty good job, aside from the commute, mostly due to the schedule. You'd basically work Mon, Tues, Friday-Sunday one week, than work Wed/Thurs the next week, so you're never working more than 2-3 days in a row.

12 hour shifts shifts plus a 50 minute commute (one-way) sucks though. It should've paid overtime on the weeks where you're working 5 days though.

If you want a good factory job, I don't quite know if they still exist like they used to, if you aren't specialized in one area. There was a time when people in my family and extended family worked at the Ford plant near Toronto and you could just step in and work on the production line. An untrained Greek immigrant could just step in and make good money on the production line with no education or tenure.

Now that same factory, you'd have to work like 10 years at a crap wage before jumping into higher seniority and very very good paychecks. And there are less jobs because a lot of it is automated and there's a microchip shortage at the moment.

I worked at a label factory for a few months. It was boring as hell. All of my coworkers were the kind of obnoxious stupid white dudes who think screaming racial epithets is the height of comedy. They tried to pull the mandatory overtime 6 10 hour days a week bullshit on us and I just stopped showing up. Got into healthcare and never looked back. Still sucks but at least I don't work with fucking rednecks.

Kind of. I'd go in on installs of Automation systems that I programmed. Seemed fucking miserable. I got out of the programming role because that was bad enough... I couldn't imagine punching a clock every day like that
