Coming off of the absolutely amazing Resident Evil 1-3 im disappointed in how this one is essentially just a third person shooter where you walk into an area, everyone immediately knows youre there and you just run around them shooting until theyre dead since theyre too slow to catch you and they dont have guns, though it takes like 10 headshots to kill them even though theyre not undead.

Also the currency/merchant system feels really out of place for a game like this.

Im sure at the time this game was absolutely mindblowing because it was one of the first of its kind, but it really hasnt aged too well.

4 ruined the seriously, honestly. It went from survival horror to generic action game. Thats why 5 and 6 sucked ass, and the series didnt get good again until 7 when it went back to being a survival horror game.

TBF the original RE formula was pretty stale by that point. So I think that's a big part of why 4 was so well-received.

I don't think it was ever a GameFAQs user who got that haircut, it was just a picture of a guy with a similar haircut that various trolls circulated around the boards at the time, but this is the pic:

Well, if the game displays itself as an action game rather than survival horror and you run out of ammo, chances are you might be doing something wrong.

The fact that shooting the limbs also causes reactions unlike the previous games should lead you to try different things, too.

RE4 wasn't that bad. The game did change the direction of the RE series, but it didn't ruin the series. The game had some fantastic boss battles and the mercenary mode was fun. RE5 and RE6 ruined the series.

It all came full circle once RE7 came out. The change to 1st person was jarring but I love it as a game.

6 sucks because it's bad to play. The aesthetic is immaterial to the fact that playing it just feels garbo.

I thought 6 was alright, it at least fully embraced the action game format by making characters far more mobile...but the controls were needlessly complicated.

Well if you beat the game and do a couple side quests type things, you can get a set of armor for Ashley. That, of course, requires at least SOME skill with the game.

shoot them in the leg then knife the fuck outta them. That knife and melee system is pretty good for the whole game.

I think I did do a knife only run once. Only like 3 points in the game a gun is absolutely required.

You're playing a game 15 years after it's been picked apart and spread all over that 15 years since. GoWs quicktime events also aren't the amazing sight they use to be. Cause we did it a million times by now. You're not experiencing it as it changes the whole way you're use to playing games.

With that said. I think it still holds it's own even if you're playing it 15 years later because the campaign is so well crafted like the majority of RE games, regardless of their core style. But not everyone is gonna like it. You'll have no power to convince people it's bad, just like we'll have no power to convince you it's good. No idea why people think these topics are necessary for old games that already proved themselves.

It's a run and gun under the RE banner.

Most of the reason it is so overrated is it was...ya...babies first hardcore game, on a Nintendo system.
~Just sayin'

It's not a horrible game, but it fucked up the series....but that's on Capcom.
