Mosquitoes, you're basically forced to swat because they will go on the offensive. Flies just want your food. If you have no food, there will be no flies. To a mosquito, you ARE food.

Flies are sinister, they will actively taunt and aggravate you and some are far to spry to actually swat.

While mosquitoes actually bite and carry disease, they are far stupider and I see them bumping into walls all the time. They are super easy to squish.

how often does that happen? i've never heard people bring this up irl even though everyone has several mosquito bites every summer

Flies will actively try to get into your mouth/nose and won't stop until you tire them out. They have insanely good reflexes and know how to fly in your blindspots so it looks like they disappeared for a few seconds even know you're actively tracking them.

mosquitoes are worse, but I have to deal with flies far more often thus I find them more of a nuisance. Honeestly, mosquitoes dont really bite me.

people saying flies are worst don't live in an area where mosquitos are common and attack in swarms. It's mandatory that you sleep with a fan on or under a net to avoid mosquitos.

I have a family member waiting to die from...



He and one other contracted the disease while going to Ohio for the funeral of another family member who died from the same disease. Three people from the same family catching the same fatal and incurable disease by getting bit by mosquito's.

Yeah this is messed up. There was a 7 year old boy in my town who died a couple years ago from EEE, and some others including a young father.

In CA, flies are a nuisance but pretty easy to deal with. In SoCal, pretty much non existent mosquitos.

I'm currently in the Midwest helping an ailing uncle however and the developing country level thickness of flies combined with the mosquitos and some other flying insect that also bites is unbearable.

Generally mosquitos though.

Yeah, me too and neither did I. My stake in this is zero, barely know this side of the family, it's just something I'm aware of and am close to other family members who are more affected by all this than me.

The one died last year, the other two are late stage. All three; hard working people with good careers and families. Started with headaches which turned to migraines. Within a year all of them couldn't work any longer. The one died shortly after, the other two waiting...it's just the most f'd up thing, for all of them of course. Doctor's say waiting is all there is. The most f'd thing is that there is a woman in the middle of all this who's lost/losing dad/brother/husband to one of the rarest diseases on earth. Stranger things have happened and life's never been fair, sure...still hard to swallow. Feel really bad for her especially...and her kids. Grandpa/uncle/dad. Jeeze.

Flies only land on your food and spread some shit, you'll probably get diarrhea at worst.

One night, after a cookout of about 30 where I was constantly swatting mosquitos and went home with about 15 bites. No one else reported anything. I asked an entomologist grad school friend WTF is going on.

I was told that bugs are attracted to people by a combination of respiration and perspiration (breathing and sweating). Some people have more of the "it" factor than others. Plus, booze, citrusy fragrances (or drinks) are enhancers.

As a grad student, I drank a lot - especially Corona with lime - plus being from the West Coast, I sweat a lot in the humidity of the short month and a half New England summer.

I was a sitting duck. Even caught West Nile.

Flies draw attention to themselves, and are pretty easy to trap, not to mention fairly easy to avoid having a problem with them in the first place.

Mosquitos are utter... oh right, GameFAQs doesn't like that word. The one you'd hear all the time in Australia.

Biting flies that go after you outside are way worse than mosquitos, who usually don't like me too much.

Roaches

Flies are easier to control(keep garbage further from house. Keep garbage closed. Keep house clean. Maybe setup a few basic traps.)

Also easier to kill because they stand out more with their darker coloration. Tends to stand out against most indoor surfaces and you are mostly likely to see them indoors or in human made enclosures like a park Pavillion or dumpster.

I asked my friend about blood types (B+, here) at the time and she said it wasn't much of a factor. Breath and sweat. YMMV.
