You can make way more money opening them on streams and having people gamble on what is in the packs than the cards are worth, plus people are selling NFTs of the popular streams.

So they are flying off of shelves and people are buying up all they can online.

Sports and Yugioh cards have been hard to find too. Not sure about Magic. To get cards at retail stores at least in my area you have to go to customer service and they have a 1 or 2 item limit.

What's the deal with Pokmon cards right now?

There was a promo with Mcdonalds, featuring card art not seen since the original release, so people went crazy and bought out all the cards before they even had a chance to make it to the stores, (they were literally bypassing the local stores and buying direct from the distributor, somehow); other people saw that pokemon was popular with these promo packs being sold out and thought to themselves "maybe I can get in on this by buying regular packs of pokemon" and they did, they went to the store and punched each other in the face for regular pokemon cards, so they could try to sell them online at inflated prices, often to parents looking for the special promo packs.

So Stores in the States said enough of this and took them off the shelves, and told their customers to go online and stop fighting over pieces of cardboard in their toy aisle.
