The most recent season, "Red vs Blue Zero", isn't even a Halo machinima anymore, it's animated in unreal engine and basically has none of the original cast and none of the original writers. A main writer's main other credit is literally WatchMojo videos.
The first 5 seasons are really funny, it gets more serious after that but still has comedy. They selectively added mocap to pivotal fight scenes to add to their impact. A big reason the show succeeded in the beginning was that it had no budget so it was just guys trying to be funny on the internet. Now there's basically nothing left of that. Ive seen it all except for Zero. But I agree, the end of season 10 was surprisingly well written, and kind of emotional.
