I'm pretty sure I've had it my entire life. I don't remember ever not having it. I just assumed people always heard a piercing whine when it was too quiet. I think I was in my 20s before I learned tinnitus was a thing.

Literally fades into the background after a while. I've had it for eight years (that I've noticed) and nowadays I only notice it when somebody else mentions it. Like right now. It's still there, it's still loud, but I only realize it's there when I think about it.

I hate tinnitus topics because then I start to notice my own tinnitus. Only thing that has helped for me to lower the volume (even then just a tiny bit) is losing weight. Ginko biloba, that stupid skull tapping, beep/white noise videos didn't really help.

Damn I'm really glad your brain learns to filter out the ringing noise. I'm honestly getting a ton of anxiety from this topic, just thinking about what it would be like. There's a ringing I can hear, but it's only ever when it's very quiet, like at night, and it's easy to just ignore it.not to scare you, but almost all chronic tinnitus gets worse over time, slowly. Most people get exacerbations and it gets loud for a couple months, then retreats close to previous baseline. Exacerbations, I have found, can sometimes be dealt with acoustic neuromodulation.
