Just started not too long ago, level 2x newbie. Figured to mess around with some crafting classes, started with culinary because I like food. Well eventually got to a point where some of the items were obtainable via botanist, so I jumped over to botany.

Well through that I realized a ton of my inventory was wearing low and/or due for repair, so I figured I could do a quick goldsmith run because it's all lv. 1 repair stuff anyways so it won't take long.

and holy shit my inventory is full

I hear saddlebags are helpful but I'm still a ways away from getting that far in the main quest (no spoilers pls)

i think free trial might have limited inventory space? it's 150 slots normally and saddlebags add another 75 (150 if you subscribe to their dumb phone app)

retainer/bank space is fucked tho, 300 slots normally and your sub price goes up if you want more

Crafting destroys your inventory if you hoard mats. I figure it's better to sell excess mats and if I need them later just buy them back.

agreed, not to mention the fact that high quality versions of the same material take up an extra slot.

this game does a lot of stuff right but inventory is not one of them

I seem to have 140 spots on the free trial. Was planning on subscribing once the free trial is up. I assume it would still let me use my ~20 days left before kicking in, but we'll cross that bridge.

I'd sign up for an app for extra inventory space though. My cell phone data is already used by a million other apps, what's one more?

I did recently realize that I could just go to the guild stores and sell anything that shows up in my bag that is also sold at said store. That's been a help.

i'm on the free trial right now and yeah running into inventory limits is annoying. i guess since i'm not doing any of the non-combat jobs they're piling up. also running into armory inventory limits as well since i keep getting weapons and armor for other jobs. throw those into the saddlebag for any job i'm not actively doing, so only keeping bard or machinist gear in the armory inventory

If you aren't interested in crafting, you are best off discarding 90% of what fills up your inventory

Subs get retainers that carry shit for us.

okay i JUST realized you can select HQ items when doing regular synthesis... i didnt know you could highlight over and select differing amounts of HQ or regular quality materials. i thought they had to all be HQ or all be regular

this is also a game changer because im sick of taking up two spots for one material lmfao hahahaha

also just hit level 30 and got my chocobo so im evidently one quest away from getting a saddlebag

also just subbed last night so i gotta look up where to get retainers next

There are more options for storage than you'd think. They're just not well advertised:
Join a grand company and get an equiment/weapon storage box + a vanity item box
Get an apartment and you'll get storage for furniture and cosmetics
Get 1 or 2 retainers and each has like 5 pages of storage
Get a chocobo and it has its own storage

Retainers and chocobo bags help once you can get them. And you'll learn over time which items to prioritize keeping around. There's not that much you really need

you mean like the company chest? damn i thought that was like a communal thing that anyone could give and take from so i didnt do anything with it.

does the free company chest operate the same way?

That's why Path of Exile has the best inventory system in the world, you can search tabs, customize tables and there are specialized tabs and you could theoretically have 1million tabs or something like that

Free company chests are player guilds and they are shared.

Grand companies are an in-game thing where you join one of the 3 city armies. They give you a little room to train up AI troops to send on missions after doing a few quests and in that room is a box that lets you store weapons and armor for glamor purposes. You need a glamor prism (EDIT: It's been a while, but you might only need a prism to skin over your current equipment) to store the item in the chest, but it's a means of setting aside equipment you might use later on other classes. Plus any event items like special clothes can go into the vanity chest right next to it.

Just to make absolutely sure we're talking about the same thing, the storage I'm talking about is in your squadron room which is right next to the grand company desk in each town. You need to be at least Second Lieutenant rank in your grand company to get access to it. Inside it's a tiny instanced room with a couple of tables and in the back are the 2 storage chests: one for vanity items and one for armor/weapon storage.

I've played this game 414 days, 23 hours, and 25 minutes and I have never gone to my GC for glams.
