Public transit should be free, tbh. Transportation is one of the biggest problems people in poverty are faced with. Plenty of people would quit driving for a multitude of reasons if it was free, it would actually fuel the economy and create a commonwealth tax cycle for funding.

As it stands right now, the pool is too small, thus the bus fare is rather too inconsistent and not tracked enough to even measure where it should be allocated. the only way to fix the budget problem would be making public transit more appealing

absolutely. car ownership on current levels is environmentally unsustainable, and it's the major factor in why so many people don't like cities.

in addition to transit improvement, car ownership needs to be discouraged as much as possible

I don't think cost of transportation is the issue. It's access, and properly structured public transit. They have it figured out in Europe and NE USA, unfortunately there are huge bipartisan reasons why it hasn't spread to the other states.

Of course it should. My local taxes are always so low that I would literally pay $10 extra (or so) to ensure that people without a car can get to work.

When I was poor, I had to walk everywhere. Then I rode the bus everywhere. Then I Ubered everywhere. Finally, I got a car. Everyone should have to work their way up the way I did.
