I loved the concept of a bunch of outcast samurais fighting for justice. Loved the costumes, they were bad ass. But it seemed like that movie was just a big series of missed opportunities. Here are the things I would have changed:

• Less standing around and talking, more 1 on 1 fight scenes (I think there was maybe 2)
• The guy in the silver looked cool but didn't do much, he would have been a great main villain
• The witch didn't do a lot either, she could have been a lot more destructive and a lot crazier... maybe a wife for the guy in the silver
• The sword that Snoke (or Snoke's twin brother at least) gave Keanu Reaves could have had a great back story, like Ryu's dragon sword in the original Ninja Gaiden.
• Keanu is a great actor, but wasn't really a good fit for that part. They should have had someone that was good with weapons be the main character.

Other than that, not a bad movie, just could have done so much more with it.

Wife never saw it. And I wouldn't say garbage, just a great idea that was poorly executed.

As I recall it was basically made to be 300 but with Samurai, except it was made super cheaply and looks fucking ugly, and they removed the modicrum of stylishness that made 300 work in the first place. And they removed anything that made the story of the 47 ronin remotely interesting and they made an ass ending that ignore any sense of culture or even investment in the plot and just inserts a dumbfuck hollywood "guy gets the girl for no sensible reason" ending that belongs in a romcom.

Forgive me if I'm slightly off, it's been something approaching half a decade or more since I saw it.

No worries. I started falling asleep when I saw it in theatres because I couldn't understand what they were saying (a lot of people with accents trying to speak english but not speaking very loudly). When I watched it with the subtitles, it was a lot more interesting. But what I saw was that it was basicially just scene after scene of people standing around talking. Loved the silver armor that the one guy had though. I was hoping he and Keanu would fight one more time during the final battle.

If they wanted to they could make a sequel. Maybe the princess becomes a samurai and goes after Shang Tsung :p It would be doable but would need some good directing and writing.
