Some things in my head finally clicked and I realized I don't actually need reddit and reddit is inherently toxic.
I decided that basically everything can be replaced by just using Discord as a replacement. reddit is basically "boomer" at this point and discord is basically the forum rings of the early 2000s.

And the sad part is that I was a very early adopter of discord (like I was of reddit). Reddit has never been a good place for discussion, but discord? Hell yes.

Depends on the community, but Discord (and really any other social media service) has toxic communities too; the secret is to drop the toxic ones and foster the growth of the good ones.

I've found that Discord has the same people from reddit, so it can be hit and miss.

I see more toxicity on this board alone on a weekly basis than I've ever seen on Reddit in the entire time I've been using it.

I have memories from the past 16 years.

The Assange sub after he announced on Bill Maher in 2016 that he was working to get Trump elected, gods that sucked.

The original Questionable Content sub, after Jeph decided to change his comic from indy rock adjacent, to a SJW lovefest. (It was a change for the better imo)

The Erfworld sub, after the incident. But that was more Rob melting down while the fans were trying to figure out what was happening when the site went dark.

That couple of years when Nazi's were moderators of r/Canada...

Reddit good for memes, bad for discussion.

Like a new game release, you'll see about a million pictures of some guy taking a photo of his game on some cheap white table with some dumb-ass caption like "been waiting 4 years for this day" but no one talking about the game. Maybe one stickied thread if the mods care enough.

despite using it daily i think i might be glad when it's gone

It was a change from shit to a different flavor of shit IMO.

But the fandom of QC at pretty much any point is something I'd avoid like the Arcturan Mega-plague, regardless of where it was communicating.

Same deal with Homestuck. The comic was interesting (at least until it fell victim to terminal overcomplication and lack of focus), but the fandom was a festering wound in the psyche of the universe and you'd have to be a masochist to ever want to engage with it.

If every subreddit you're going to is terrible, maybe you should stop going to terrible subreddits.

Or maybe you should look in a mirror and start reevaluating your own life, and consider why it might be that all of your peers in all of the places you feel drawn to are apparently such monsters (and start wondering how they view you).
