I'm not understanding the practicality of having two devices when one can sufficiently do both. Can someone here kindly explain to me why? I always thought kindles were a thing of the past, and are slowly getting antiquated out of the market. Just wondering.

I had work buy me the smallest ipad so I could use it as a notepad going around the place

Kindles have advantages. Like less likely to hurt your eyes. Better battery life

E-readers generally have much longer lasting batteries
Different screen type that is easier on the eyes
Generally a lot smaller and lighter

Those are imo the main pros for using a dedicated e-reader to read books over a tablet.
